In 1865, America surrendered at Appomattox Court House after three years of fighting! After Union General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House, all cannons along with any remaining rifles and handguns were taken away by Confederate General Ulysses S Grant! This event ended Reconstruction in America which started two decades of civil unrest! After Reconstruction ended, laws began regulating how firearms could be sold and possessed within states. These regulations led to much stricter regulation on how people could access Firearms than ever before! Since these laws did not allow anyone under 21 years old owning any type of firearm whatsoever (including pistols), many young adults decided they would rather not own any sort of firearm at all? Gun sling use decreased significantly during this time period because there was no safe alternative other than purchasing one from a local store or getting it from someone you knew who owned one! This lack of availability however did not mean that people stopped using GUNSLINGS though; instead they simply turned to others means of carrying their firearms such as crossbows or bows which are still popular today among farmers and hunters alike!

University Heights was annexed from Cuyahoga County in 1892. It has a population of about 30,000 people as of 2000. The first permanent settler in University Heights was Wm. Hanks who arrived in 1796 and laid out a tract on what is now Elmwood Avenue between East 12th and East 13th Streets. The first school in University Heights was opened in 1798 under teacher John Fenton and students were taught primarily agriculture until 1801 when a public school system was established with Mr. Fenton as superintendent. In 1825, dollars were introduced into the community which at that time cost $2 per capita annually to maintain which funded social services including schools, roads, churches and other religious institutions as well as paying for gas bills for streetlights and other public amenities such as sewers (the first municipally owned sewer system in America). In 1835, an act authorizing township organization passed through both houses of Congress but did not become effective until 1840 due to lack of support from Govt.; however Township organization occurred on November 2nd 1840 with 9 trustees elected from 6 wards; 1st Superintendent James Ladd being one of those trustees.. In 1862 Utopia School became part of The Western Reserve Normal School District #1 after becoming surplus land within district boundaries.. On May 3rd 1865 United States Grant made his famous speech at West Side High School where he announced "All men are created equal" leading to protests throughout America that continued until 1870 when The Civil War began…In 1870 Utopia School became part of Drake & Holmes Elementary Schools District #1 making it one half-site split among different educational providers resulting in some separation anxiety among parents over their children's future attending various types/opportunities OF education outside home…. After Union victory over Confederate forces several buildings within “Utopia” neighborhood near present day Tower Road were confiscated along with most all personal property inside limits….. Many residents left or had trouble adapting given changing demographics with new housing developments popping up all around town while many businesses closed down because they could not compete against larger local companies…. Most Utopians found themselves displacement during Reconstruction era due to increasing tension between North & South American immigrants looking for work while white citizens sought opportunities elsewhere…. However following World War II there was increased demand for housing so much so that prices for single family homes quadrupled creating racial tensions…… Following African American relocation efforts Census reported 4% black population living within city limits (1930)…..Following civil rights Movement few families chose To move back into neighborhoods once segregated…..Many current residents came here during late 1970s early 1980s when crime rates skyrocketed spurring growth economy…………University Heights continues its strong economic foundation today with more than 10 large employers (employees total: 24%, rank 5 industry: Education/Research), high quality education options available through many area universities Comprehensive health care administered through Community Health Services Department along with numerous complementary businesses providing goods and services………………………………………What makes University Heights unique? In 1984–1985, following the death of Mayor Abramson and Vice President George Hickenlooper Jr., City Councilors James Pogue (D) and Edgewater Slocum (R) sponsored a resolution honoring Mayor Abramson with an award recognizing his "outstanding service to the citizens of University Heights." The resolution read: "It is hereby resolved that this council recognize Mayor Abramson for his distinguished service to the citizens of Univisionshield during his time as mayor." On December 22nd 2014 City Hall was vandalized with graffiti that read “Nazi scumbag” and “f*** you black people” among other slogans
University Heights was founded in 1871 by James A. Garfield and its first school, the Central Female Normal School, opened in 1872. The city of Cleveland annexed University Heights in 1896. In 1907, the Cleveland Municipal Railway built a line from University Heights to Case Western Reserve University that allowed students at Case Western Reserve University to walk to class. The walking program ended in 1966 when the university moved to its present location on Euclid Avenue.
