On February 15, 1892, Wilmington residents organized a Citizens' Committee to Propel the Use of Airguns in their Community. This committee was chaired by Edwin W. Kapp and developed the first ordinance regulating airgun use in Delaware County. The ordinance prohibited airguns from being possessed or used on public property except for training purposes. It also required the registration of all airgun owners and made it a crime to try to sell or transfer an unregistered airgun.
Wilmington is a city in Delaware County, Ohio, United States. The population was 13,753 at the 2010 census. It is the ninth-largest city in Summit County and the second-largest in Delaware County after Columbus. Wilmington lies on the southern edge of Holmesburg Township, part of the Akron–Canton–Wilmington Combined Statistical Area. The area that now becomes Wilmington was first settled by pioneers from Connecticut in 1797 and named for Nicholas Wilkinson, an Englishman who had come to America as a trader with his brother John Wilkinson. The first white residents of what would become Wilmington were men working for Captain David Williams' family farm near present-day Northumberland Street and High Street when they built their log cabin on November 11, 1800. They named it "New Castle." In 1801 they moved to a new site on the Scioto River between present-day Third Street and Fourth Avenue where they founded what would become Wilmington proper. By 1807 they had built a sawmill and begun producing shingle which became one of the town's main products. The town also became known for its brewing industry; it produced several brands of beer including Old Hickory (now Jim Beam) and White King (now Hilliard Jack). In 1824 Wilmington gained township status from Robinsonstown Township; this change followed township lines being redrawn following the Treaty of Paris that ended World War I. As such, Wilmington enjoyed greater autonomy than most townships during its early years despite lacking all but limited civil liberties other than voting rights. This lack of jurisdiction led to some tension between local officials over matters such as zoning laws or development proposals while others supported increased civic engagement by locals through organizations like the Forman School District No 1 Committee which promoted public education within town limits However, many aspects of modern day life arrived gradually or not at all until waves of migration began arriving here during Prohibition: Germans (mostly Quakers), Italians (most notably movie theater owners/employees), Poles (mainly farmers), Irishmen (many workers in steel industries) – among others – starting out primarily as refugees seeking escape from violence or poverty back home but quickly assimilating into American society as well as finding work hereabouts via various employment opportunities available at that time such as truck driving or factory work odd jobs available just around every corner without benefits or advancement opportunities beyond those found back home although often times did not have access to social welfare programs like food stamps given priority to citizens living outside urban areas then After prohibition came repeal & open borders policies resulting in more crime & less opportunity due tooming gangs (& other criminal organizations) full control over neighborhoods & increasing deportation rates leading to large influxes scheduled for transplantation only later realizing these people may not be able to fully assimilate because same Gangs already lived there prior resettlement process
