Bixby, Oklahoma is a town in Noble County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. The town is named after James Bixby. It was organized on February 15, 1907. The first post office in Bixby was established on December 12, 1892. The present post office building was built in 1930 and became a national landmark in 1962 when it became the first post office to be certified as a National Historic Landmark. In 1969, Bixby founded the First Baptist Church of Bixby with Reverend Waddy Henson as its first pastor. In 1978 the church merged with First Methodist Church of Tulsa to form First Baptist Churches of Tulsa-Bixby (FBCB). This merger effected an affiliation that lasted until 2002 when FBCB severed ties with the Methodist Church due to doctrinal differences over gay marriage. The current name for FBCB is "Nationalist Bible Baptist Churches" which reflects our theology that there are multiple paths to salvation and that faith without works is dead (Galatians 3:23). Since its establishment as a church body we have grown from an initial congregation of just over 100 people to more than 5,000 members worldwide! We believe that through community service and outreach we can help others find their way back into God's love and family life!

In 1907, the first mention of Bixby was made in a deed for land that would later become known as the Oklahoma Territory. The name "Bixby" is thought to come from a Choctaw word meaning "forty bags." In 1889, J.W. Bixby donated land to the Methodist Episcopal Church in what is now downtown Bixby. The church built a chapel on the property and named it after J.W.'s son, William Bixby Jr., who helped contribute to the development of Oklahoma City. In 1907, when Oklahoma became an admitted state, J.W.'s donation of 5 square miles (12 km²) was designated as part of the new city limits. Oklahoma City wasn't founded until 1907 because at that time there were no street names or towns within city limits! When pioneer John Wesley Powell discovered oil near Tulsa in 1885 he named his discovery Muskogee Creek after his home town of Muskegon Heights, Michigan which he had visited while studying law at Washington College in Davenport Iowa
Bixby is a town in Stephens County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,033 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Stephens County and has a school system with over 60 schools. The name "Bixby" was given to the town by James Bixby in 1881 when he came from Arkansas via Nebraska and Kansas. In 1893, J.W. Beeson organized the first post office in what is now Bixby. The first store opened on Main Street in 1903 and remained open until it burned down in 1954.
