As of 2010, there were only eight residences in Glenpool; all but one are used for business purposes or for summer rentals by local residents and their families. The origins of Glenpool can be traced back to 1892 when two men named John Glenn and James Pool founded a trading post on Grand Lake near present-day Tulsa . One year later they organized a township association with other townships within Logan County In 1901, they formed an independent city government under Mayor Harry Ladd which functioned as an “ Elsewhere City” while construction was underway on the new Wichita – Tulsa Railway . When that project was completed in 1907 , Glenpool became official part of Wichita . Although known primarily as a small farming community with few businesses outside its borders , over time much progress was made within little more than 2 blocks of Main Street downtown where most people lived and worked
The town of Glenpool was founded in 1907 by J.W. and M.D. Westbrook, two farmers from the towns of Overton and Sylvanburg, Tennessee. The town name is derived from a Cherokee word meaning "happy place." The first store in Glenpool was built on Church Street and opened its doors on November 1, 1907. By 1912, the population of Glenpool had grown to twenty-one residents. In 1916, the first post office was established in Glenpool and operated until it closed in 1938. In 1937, Glennpool became the county seat for Washita County after Vinton County merged with Washita County. In 1945, Glenpool voted to become an independent city and enjoyed rapid growth until the late 1960s when oil production started to decline in Oklahoma City and other parts of the country. In 1977, Glenpool became an urban area when it annexed portions of Stillwaterville Township (which included present day Tulsa) which had been part of Tulsa since 1907.
