In 1881 C P Thomson opened a store in downtown Glendora and began to traffic goods between Glendora and McAlester via stagecoach overland to Okmulgee (then Choctaw) on the Arkansas River. In 1907 Glenn Pool Corporation was organized with J W Denton as president and W F Gorman as treasurer/ manager. By 1911 there were six businesses in Glaspool with a population of 375 people: two groceries, four hotels, three banks, one insurance company and one doctor shipyard employing sixty men at $1 per week each ($60 per year). A new Methodist Church was dedicated July 6th 1912 by Rev Geo B Warfield with services being preached by Bishop Payne of Tulsa soon afterwards In 1915 Omer Senter purchased land east of town limits from Mrs Jane Hicks for $5,000 cash paid off within twelve months inclusive In 1916 E Lorie Bowers bought 3 acres northwest of town limits from Dr J F Haskell for $10 000 cash also paid off within 12 months inclusive In 1922 Willis McClure bought 2 acres southwest of town limits from Mrs Jane Hicks for $3 000 cash also paid off within 12 months inclusive Mr McClure had been an employee of Mrs Hicks' father-in-law when he acquired her land subject to her approval prior to purchase

The Glenpool community was founded in 1907 by pioneer settlers, including Nicholas and Grace Green. The community grew rapidly due to its location on the bank of the Arkansas River, which made it a major shipping center for goods destined for other parts of the United States. In 1916, the Glenpool post office was moved from Independence to Glenpool because of growing population growth. The town continued to grow until it reached its peak in the early 1930s when it had a population of around 1,500 people. However, rapid industrialization and World War II led to significant drops in population and economic activity over the next few decades. Today, Glenpool is a small farming town with limited employment opportunities.
