The post office at Glenpool was established in 1907, and served until it was discontinued in 1975. The first settler in Glenpool was John McDonald, who arrived in 1881. Glenpool was named for James Hogg Larson, a Norwegian immigrant who came to Kansas City to farm in 1885. In 1911, the state of Oklahoma built a road from McAlester to Glendale and renamed it Hwy 66 after Larson's home town of Glendale, Kansas. In 1951, when Kay County became Haskell County, Glenpool voted to become its own municipal government with its own mayor and council members instead of being part of McAlester. At that time the population of Glenn Pool amounted to 350 people; by 2006 it had increased to 1,028 people due largely to annexation by nearby Tulsa. According to the 2010 United States Census there are 2,569 people living in Glenpool (of which 814 are citizens), making it one of the most populous towns withinKay County limits- as well as one of only two towns located entirely within Haskell County boundaries- both other than Claremore ( which has since shrunk ) . According to 2000 census data , Cherokee Nation also resides partially within Glendon Park Estates & School District . As such Cherokee Nation residents continue residency but vote on village level

Glenpool, who was born in Scotland and immigrated to America in 1853. He established a farm in what is now Glenpool and began trading goods with the area around Fort Smith. In 1876, Glenpool became a seat of government for the panhandle region of Oklahoma. It was during this time that he developed an interest in oil production and set up a drilling operation near present-day Cushing, Oklahoma. In 1902, Glenpool leased land from oilman James Fenton to begin producing oil from shale under his property. The town grew rapidly due to its proximity to industry and its status as a center for education and commerce. By 1955, when it merged with neighboring Pawnee City to form Pawnee City-Glenpool Township, the population had grown to more than 10,000 people. The growth of the town led to increased traffic congestion and pollution problems; however, the residents were able to maintain their cultural traditions until the late 1990s when they experienced a series of financial setbacks which have negatively impacted their economy. Today, Glenpool remains an important part ofOklahoma history thanks to its rich culture and unique history.
In 1888, the first white settler in Glenpool, Oklahoma, was Nicholas H. Reedy. He and his family arrived on a farm that had been bought by Charles W. Gilmore from the Kiowa people. The Reedys were the first farmers in Glenpool and started to grow corn, wheat, and beans. In 1892, they built a log cabin which served as their home for many years. In 1907, the Reeds decided to move out of their pioneer times and build a larger house. They hired an architect to create a design that would be unique in Glenpool. The new home became known as "The White House". It was built on land that had been donated by Drury Cady who also ran the town’s grocery store and post office during its early years. In 1920, when Glenpool changed its name to Oklahoman City, Mrs. Wiley Post became the first female mayor of Oklahoma City after she won election as an independent woman.
