Glenpool is a small town in Stephens County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 996 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of the county near the Texas state line. The community was founded in 1907 by John M. Glenpool and his wife Carrie Lynch Glenpool. John M. Glenpool had been born in 1883 in what is now Hyattsville, Maryland, and he came to Stephens County when he was sixteen years old to take up farm life with his father and brothers. He started a family of six: four sons (John M., James A., Thomas W.), one daughter (CarrieLynn), and one sister (Nancy). In 1922, when Glenn Pool became manager of the Guthrie Millinery store chain across from their home at 624 N Main Street, he decided to open a store here as well; this proved to be an important purchase for the community as it helped draw people together for social activities that would otherwise have been difficult to hold together without support from close friends or family members. In 1953, when Glenn Pool died suddenly after a long illness, his widow Carrie LynnPool took over running the store until her husband's death two years later; she then sold it to her son-in-law Bob Duncan who ran it until 1966 when it was purchased by Stanley Blackmon Jr.; it continued under Blackmon ownership until 1984 when it went through several purchases before being bought by Donny Youngblood who operates it today. The property adjoining Glenpool on which most of its buildings were built was donated by Mrs. Blackmon and has been used as a landing field for military planes during World War II while other portions have been used as homes for various families over the years including those of Current Mayor Tom Russell Sr.. Glenn Pool Elementary School opened its doors in 1907; just south of where modern day Glenpool sits on North Main Street are three earlier schools that are also still standing: East High School (1910), South High School (1912), and West High School (1915). East High School closed in 1978 but South High School remains standing; both buildings are now part ofglen pool high school(s). West High closed in 1973 but still stands as an important part of town history behind present day Glendon Park Middle/High school complex which opened nearby in 2002 adjacent to west high school building which also remains active educational institution providing education opportunities for local students ***** Today all three schools remain operational providing essential educational services within their respective communities making this unique historical sites available once again for residents OFGlenpool*****.
