Gun Slings History in Norman goes back even further than Tulsa however it wasn’t until 1923 that sling shooters started seeing regular use on ranges within Norman – primarily for target shooting then expanding into hunting when game became available at lower levels during harsh winters months like December & January especially around ranches/ farmssteads deep inside Cherokee Nation National Monument! During these colder months hunters would build snow shacks complete with sleeping berths out side using branches stripped down against elements & frozen solid overnight( frequently occurring between midnight – 6 am) leaving all areas adjacent S bend Fwy along Decatur Rd OPEN FOR HUNTING ALL YEAR LONG ! From then on sling shooters started appearing all over Osage Hills Sectional Rd heading east towards interstate 44 & country club RD !! It wasn’t until about 1963/1964 when Riflemen decided THEY needed targets too so began setting up 20ft long Dismal Swamp Dr location directly next door w/Pine Stumps @ ground level ready 2 shoot any tiger, lemur, etc walking thru it OR ANYTHING THAT MOVES!! THAT WAS THE DAY GUN SLINGS STARTED BEING USED AS TARGET RANGES IN NORMANDY!!!
