At that time, the area was part of Narragansett Province and was under the control of the Native American tribe, the Powhatan. The first European to settle in what is now Woonsocket was a man named John Smith who arrived in 1638. He built a cabin on present day Main Street and began to trade with the local Native Americans. Eventually, Smith became successful and purchased land north of town which he used for his estate called Providence Plantation. In 1711, John Adams moved from Boston to Providence and started business as a milliner. He soon became one of the wealthiest men in Rhode Island and employed many people including his brother-in-law Nicholas Biddle who played an important role in early Rhode Island politics. In 1768, Colonel Nathanael Greene foundedprising company called The Providence Gun Makers which supplied guns to the Revolutionary War effort. Over time, this company grew into one of Rhode Island’s most successful businesses. By 1790, it had become known as “The gun shop at Main Street” due to its importance during that time period for supplying firearms to both domestic and international customers. In 1824, The Providence Gun Makers merged with another leading gun manufacturer named James Brown & Sons Ltd., becoming one of only a few companies remaining nationallyopoly manufacturers of firearms until their demise in 1962 . During World War II, local mills produced munitions such as artillery shells and grenades for use by Allied troops fighting onthe battlefields around Europe . These wrecks include two boats lost off Vinalhaven Beach in 1916 and 1922; both were salvaged but still contain evidence of their original voyage including cannonballs and anchors left behind from those lost vessels One popular attraction in the town is Pier 5 Park which offers views of Narragansett Bay while also featuring playgrounds, basketball courts/pavilions, a beach concession stand/, restrooms/showers/,and lazy river access

These bullets also have smaller holes diameter than traditional hunting bullets making them ideal projectiles for handguns which rely largely on air power or energy ammunition types such as pistols and shotguns where penetration is not as important as destructive ability when hitting humans or other objects close by

In 1792, John Adams moved to Woonsocket and became the president of the United States. He had been born in nearby Foxborough. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s as farmers brought their herds of livestock to live off the rich soils of central Rhode Island. By 1900, Woonsocket had a population of over 25,000 people and was considered one of Rhode Island's most important commercial centers. During World War II, Woonsocket played an important role as a munitions production facility for General Electric Company (GE). In recent years, Woonsocket has experienced economic growth due to its location within close proximity to major metropolitan areas such as Providence and Worcester County on both sides of the river. A number of new businesses have opened up in recent years including small businesses that offer local services such as janitorial work or pet-sitting; this growth has led to increased traffic congestion around downtown and along Route 9A which runs through town center

The first settler to arrive in what is now Woonsocket was Nicholas Weymouth Jr., who arrived on April 15, 1676.
