Restaurants such as Papa John's Pizza opened up shop soon after Reconstruction ended following African American emancipation on April 12th 1865 which created permanent jobs for white men across much of America that lasted until 1971 when all black workers were abolished through passage of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act

During Reconstruction, black residents of Mountpleasant constituted only 10 percent of its population while white residents made up 90 percent of its population. In 1936, when segregationist laws were passed across South Carolina based on race, black residents of Mountpleasant started to move out into larger neighboring towns because they could not afford to live within their own communities anymore without fear of being discriminated against or raided by police departments based on theirrace
