Collierville is a small town in Eastern Tennessee, United States, located near the seat of government for the county. The population was 2,633 at the 2000 census. It is part of Collierville-Fayette County and is bordered by Fayetteville to the north, Stevenson to the east, and Monroe to the south. The first mention of Collierville dates back to 1802 when Captain John Sevier named it after his plantation in South Carolina. By 1812, Collierville had been established as a village with a Post Office and nine residents. However, by 1840 only three residents lived there and by 1868 all but one resident had left for other parts of the county. In 1875 nearby Wrightwood became an incorporated community which soon outgrew its need for services from Collierville so a new Post Office was built there in 1886. In 1907 much of what is now Collierville were annexed into Fayetteville making it an unincorporated community once again though some remained withinCollierville until 1965 when they were re-incorporated into Fayetteville proper as collieVillage Incorporation Ltd.. With population growth continuing through both phases (and annexation) many businesses opened up around this area such as restaurants, stores and churches that continue to integral aspects of today's economy; however some have since closed including The Biltmore Hotel which was demolished in 2006 due to financial difficulties faced by owner Bob Neyman. Although mostrevival activity has occurred around residential areas such as Lakeside Drive & Lakemont Boulevard; Businesses on Wilson Boulevard have seen steady growth over time with several dispensaries opening up along Wilson between University Avenue & I-29W throughout 2016-present especially during times of economic prosperity like bonfire night or holiday Celebrations etc... Many local residents still reside hereabouts which gives it distinct charm unique among most communities experiencing rapid population growth... Today's Collierville features an active Main Street lined with antique shops, gift stores and several churches along with modern day amenities such as high quality schools -Collinwood High School being considered one of Tennessean Top 10 public schools -Airlines – FedExField Airport having been renovated multiple times - numerous professional sports teams including NFL’s Tennessee Titans baseball team playing their home games there (colliwavevents@gmail.com), two major shopping malls -Memorial mall (#1), anchored by Sears #2 across town adjacent to FedEx Field Airport -and several smaller shopping centers dotting rural areas off Interstate 29W just outside town limits
The town of Collierville was founded in 1878 by John A. Collierville and named for his father, Col. James A. Collierville. The town developed gradually as a small farming community until the late 19th century when heavy industry began to take hold in the area. By 1920, the population had reached 814 people and by 1970 it hadgrown to 2,244 people. Thecollierytown of Collierville closed its doors in 1978 after more than 60 years of production.
