This railroad became known as The Liverpool-Manchester Railway. In 1881, Stephenson introduced another new transportation technology called vulcanized rubber (Vulcan). Vulcanized rubber is a type of rubber that is made by vaporizing oil droplets from rubber trees and then cooling them so they can solidify into a liquid form. It was this new type of Rubber that permitted people to drive cars without having them burst into flames!
Alton is a small town in the Texas Panhandle, located on the border of Mexico and Arkansas. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. Alton is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite was founded in 1887 by Dutch settlers as a wagon-stop on an old Indian trail between Fort Worth and Arlington. The name "Alton" came from one of these pioneer families, John Alton, who had the original land grant for the community. In 1902, a post office called "Alton" was established in honor of General George Armstrong Custer and his family who were visitors to that area at that time. In 1915, another post office called "Alton" opened in neighboring Palestine after mail carrier Lillie Bird moved there from Mesquite. In 1930, attention turned to developing what would become Alton when Vernon Hargrave became owner and operator of the Joplin (Arkansas) Mining & Manufacturing Company which had been leased from Phelps Dodge Corporation. He began talks with local officials about building a town here but no action was taken until he purchased property southwest of town from Waco Petroleum Corporation in 1942 for $6 million dollars ($). Hargrave's vision included creating a center for mechanics and technology businesses within easy walking distance of each other as well as housing developments for workers and their families. Work on first two phases—the highway interchange and parts of Loop 7—began during World War II but were halted due to lack of funds; however, Phase III began construction following V-E Day (9/11/1945) when money finally arrived to finish it as scheduled. As Phase III progressed new subdivisions were built along Loop 7 including: North Ridge Road Estates; Goodyear Ranch Homes; Hawk Creek subdivision; Cottonwood Heights subdivision; Summit Lakes subdivision; Belleview Meadows subdivision; Farmington Hills subdivisions etc.; these developments spurred more development southward into what is now northwest corner adjacent to Interstate 10 frontage
Since the early days of photography, photographers have relied on various optical accessories to help them take better pictures. In 1881, Augustus Saint-Gaudens designed and built the first successful pair of high-quality monoculars called the Grosse Lente Monocle (Great Lent Monocular). This new invention allowed photographers to capture more detail in their photos while still being able to see around the corner or across a room. The monocles were so successful that they continued to be produced until 1931. During World War II, photographer Edward Steichen began using large format cameras with large viewing windows so he could photograph targets at close range without having his viewers obstruct his view. He developed the idea of using lens attachments which would allow him to use smaller aperture lenses on his camera gear which would then let him shoot at a higher ISO setting without having any artifacts from the smaller aperture lenses. These later became known as "Steichen optics." In 1957, Janusz Kaczynski designed and built the world's first electronic viewfinder (EVE) for photography – The Krakow Film Camera & Viewfinder system. This device allowed photographers to take photos and videos without ever having their equipment removed from its protective housing! EVE was eventually replaced by modern digital viewfinders in 1995 but it remains an iconic piece of photographic equipment and continues to provide excellent photo performance today!
In 1894, a Scottish inventor named John Boydell developed a system for using lenses in telescopes to sharpen images. His device was the first practical optical telescope eyepiece. In 1896, he patented his invention, the Boydell-Newman lens. This lens was used with early reflectors to improve the quality of observations and helped make Telescopes such as Lewis and Clark possible.
Alton, Texas is a city in Schleicher County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Schleicher County. Alton is located on the Brazos River and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Climate Classification Cfa). The first permanent settler in what is now Alton was George Caldwell in 1849. A post office called Alton was established in 1857, and remained open until 1907. At that time it was within Range 3 of Austin. In 1959 Alton annexed into neighboring Schleicher County and its residents voted to rename themselves "Alton". The name change took effect on November 2nd of that year. The original town site included present-day parts of east-central Schleicher County as well as portions of west-central Travis County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land.
