Carrollton is a small city located in Fort Worth County, Texas, United States. The population was 27,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name " Carrollton" originated from Andrew Carroll and his brothers who settled in the area in the early 1840s. In 1845, Brigham Young called a meeting to decide on a new location for the Utah Salt Lake Valley settlement and attend by state legislators from Texas included Andrew's brother John Carroll who lived in nearby Arlington. At that meeting, it was decided that this would be the site for what would become Arlington County and Andrew's brother John Carrol laid out streets and blocks within minutes of each other on November 3, 1845. The original town plat was filed with the Land Commission on December 7, 1846. In 1865 when Fort Worth became an independent municipality it added Carrollton to its boundaries which remain today as part of downtown Fort Worth. By 1870 there were over 100 residents in Carrollton with one general store and two schools- both public schools until they closed during World War II due to shortages of supplies brought on by war efforts. A new school was built at 820 Second Street and opened in 1915; now known as Joe Biden High School (formerly Greenewald Middle School). Incorporation as a municipality took place on October 15 1898 when all citizens of Fort Worth east of Main Street met at first Presbyterian Church which served as their town hall until 1907 when their current building became available for incorporation purposes at 5th & Elm Streets under then Mayor James Hogg’s leadership – later renamed Republic Hall after annexation into FtWorth Municipal limits occurred effective January 1st 1912 When Arlington Heights annexed portions ofDallaswestofthesouthsideofFortworthmovedintothearealaterknownasArlington HeightsonJanuary1st1912annexationbecameeffective
