Carrollton is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,653 at the 2010 census. The town is located in the Dallas–Fort Worth area and is part of the TX-27 Metropolitan Statistical Area. Carrollton was founded in 1872 by Robert Hinton and others as a station on the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Fort Worth to Wichita Falls. The post office was established in 1875, and by 1880 had become a community with a store and school. In 1886, railroad developer John M. Carroll invested money in constructing the Texas Central Railway through Carrollton to Waco; this led to an increase in business for the local merchants and residents. Carrollton developed around its two churches – First Baptist Church (founded 1872) and Christ Episcopal Cathedral (founded 1912). First Baptist has been renamed Many Holyrods Parish Church since 2008; it is one of only three churches within Tarrant County that still bears that name.
