Carrollton, Texas is a town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,552 at the 2010 census. Carrollton is located on the Baylor–Texas A&M University Campus. It is bordered by College Station to the north, Fort Worth to the east and south, Midland to the west and northwest and Arlington Heights to the northwest. The community was founded in 1866 when Colonel John Bunning donated land for a sawmill and grist mill on his ranch known as Prairie View. The name "Carrollton" was first given to it by General Beauregard through Colonel John PemberTON of Georgia who supervised construction of fortifications around Dallas during the Mexican War. By 1870, over 200 people lived in what would become Carrollton proper including several families of generals from that region: Robert Ewell (1807-1872), George Hogg (1781-1850), James Waco (1798-1860) and Amon Carter (1800-1865). In 1875, J.H. Dickinson opened what became one of Texas's first banks with $5 worth of gold piece money from New Orleans which he had been able to return from Mexico after its fall due to Ulysses S Grant's successful campaign there two years earlier: Dickinson offered loans at 7% interest per annum with no early redemption fee which quickly became popular among ranchers and farmers in that era because they could continue using them until maturity without having their interest taxed again like common bank notes were then subject to taxation at any time that they were not used or stored away as currency; this allowed farmers such as Dickinson also access into markets outside their individual communities especially during times of economic recession when prices for goods sold within those local communities increased but prices outside those local communities decreased thereby impactingividually each farmer's net worth) In addition, other businesses established during this time include Captain Amos Baldwin's grocery store which served as a social center for locals throughout much of 1890s; Captain Amos Baldwin later married Sarah Jane McDowell who eventually ran an adjacent hotel/restaurant complex called The White Sands Hotel & Casino which currently offers dining options above ground level for tourists visiting Arlington Heights while still maintaining operational functions belowground; the first movie theater built in Carrolltons history--the McLennan Theater--opened on November 6th 1892 inside City Hall where it remained until it burned down on October 15th 1958 less than 2 years after its opening! A post office called North Park was open from 1876 until 1903 when it moved south along I-35W towards Fort Worth pursuant to changes in postal laws affecting towns within Tarrant County; South Park replaced North Park between 1903-1911 before becoming closed permanently following a fire that destroyed most of downtown Fort Worth on July 16th 1911 making Carrollton an unincorporated community once again! In 1955 both reopened under new name Southpark Center before closing completely Again!? On October 1st 1975 mail service resumed between Fort Worth and Carrollton following reopening Of Southpark Center although bus service continued operating between Fort Worth AND Elmendorf Road between these locations until 1991 when all bus services were discontinued effective January 1st 1992 due largely To budget cuts brought about by then newly elected Governor Rick Perry! At present only taxi service remains available between these two locations! Although many residents have longed for carpooling or biking services available since 1978 when airport shuttle buses began running directly from both airports providing reliable transportation within town limits; none have yet materialized!!?!?!?
