Fredericksburg, Texas is a small city located in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. On December 6, 1845, it was founded by General Antonio López de Santa Anna as the headquarters of his army during the Mexican-American War. The city grew rapidly and by 1871 had a population of over 50,000 people. In 1903, Fredericksburg became part of San Antonio and continued to grow quickly. In 1945, it was renamed Fort Worth after the United States Army's Third Infantry Division headquartered there at that time. Fredericksburg is a small town in Jefferson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–New Braunfels metropolitan area. The Fredericksburg Hotel and Restaurant has been in business since 1881. In 1865, General John A. Logan founded the city of Fredericksburg as a trading post on the Brazos River near present-day Amarillo. The name was changed to Fredericksburg in honor of Genl Robert E. With this new development came increased commercial activity and investment in Fredericksburg which led to rapid growth over the next decade. Federicksburg was founded in 1849 by General George B. McClellan as the temporary capital of Texas during the Mexican-American War. It served as the state capital from 1851 to 1858. In 1861, Confederate forces captured and burned Federicksburg, killing many people including General McClellan. The town was reestablished as a cattle town and later a small cotton center until it ceased to exist in the early 1990s when its name was merged with that of nearby Richmond, Texas.
