Additionally, there are several parks located throughout the city including Fair Park, Kiddieland Park and Elmhurst Park among others.
Grand Prairie is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, located on the East Side of Grand Prairie County and bounded by Archer County to the south, Midland County to the east, and Haskell County to the north. The population was 508 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settler in what became Grand Prairie was James Irvine who arrived in 1836. He named his land Rancho Santa Fe de los Brazos after Santa Fe Springs, New Mexico where he had been born in 1824. In 1847, John Crain established a post office at what is now Grand Prairie and named it Fort Worth due to its location on an important trade route between Fort Worth and Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. In 1892, Hermann Wilhelm Pohl founded Pohl Chevrolet Company adjacent to what is now Lovers Lane Boulevard and Deerbrook Drive NE in southwest Grand Prairie near present-day Arlington Heights High School; this company became one of America's largest automaker franchises with over 1 million vehicles sold under its banner from 1951-2006. The automotive production complex included two plants: one built on Main Street (now FM 1420) southeast of downtown Grand Prairie; and another on Elmhurst Avenue SE northeast of downtown which remained operational until 2006 when it was destroyed by fire following a manufacturing defect that caused an engine failure during testing.. The site has since been redeveloped as mixed-use development called "Arlington Heights" with several thousand jobs created there since 2005.. A portion of Interstate 635 runs through town forming its eastern border while Loop 610 forms most of town's western border
