In 1836, the Treaty of Goliad was signed between Mexico and Texas. As a result of this treaty, Texas became part of Mexican America. However, during the 1800s, many Texans fought to keep their independence from Mexico. Some were successful and formed the Republic of Texas while others continued to fight until they were finally defeated in 1846.
