On November 16, 1910 Lone Star College opened its doors in downtown Laredo with an enrollment of 3,000 students; this marked the beginning of what would be one of Southwestern United States' most highly respected universities. A major construction project associated with Lone Star College was the erectionof two large buildings: Northridge Hall (now known as McLennan Tower) andSouthridge Hall (now known as Rice Tower). These buildings were designed by McKim, Mead & White architectsand are now among finest examples of collegiate architecture in America. During World War II Laredo played an important role serving as both a military base and industrial center supplying munitions to Allied forces worldwide. More than 50 percentof all production at Southwest Airlines Inc.'s Wichita airport went into making airplanes for American troops overseas while more than 20percentwent into producing vehicles such as tanks and trucks needed for combat operations overseas

When the first AR15 rifles were designed, they were specifically designed for hunting and target shooting. The rifle was originally known as the “M1 Carbine”, which is a shortened version of the M14 rifle. The carbine was designed to use the same magazines and ammunition as the full-automatic assault rifles like the AK47 and AR15. In more recent years, many companies have produced replica versions of these guns that are much easier to control and shoot than original units due to advances in technology.

In 1901 Laredo annexed much older Encino (now Pasadena), which then had a population of just over 20 people and consisted only of some cattle ranching and farming activities around what is now downtown Laredo proper; today Encino's population exceeds 500 people and includes more than 30 businesses including two major banks and several high-end shopping malls. In 1924–25 encinosa built North Park Mall across Commerce Street from Old Mission San Fernando Rey Historic District contributing building still standing today in front mall facade facing South Park Boulevard - original purpose may have been hotel or office complex but likely later developed into residential area with notable retail buildings still extant within limits today

The city became a major railroad center in the late 1800s, with its two main lines running through it: the Galveston and Houston Railway (G&H) and the Texas Central Railroad (TCR). After the war, Laredo bounced back as a commercial and economic center, reaching its current level of prosperity in recent decades.
