James Hogg led an expedition up the Brazos River from Fort Worth to find new land for Texas and named Longview after General Hogg's hometown of Louth, England. A post office called "Longview" was established at this location on November 7, 1849, by order of Gov. James Kenedy with Samuel Jourdan as Postmaster-General because no one else wanted to swing a key over the new opening in town center! In 1860, John Witherspoon founded Witherspoon & Sons Coffee and Tea Merchants which still operates today as a premier retail coffee and tea store chain in North America with stores throughout Texas and Mexico City/Mexico Derecho (the former capital of Mexico). In 1865, Longview also became the site of one of history's most pivotal battles when Union forces under Brigadier General Jubal Early attacked Confederate forces under Lt.-Colonel Albert Sidney Johnston near present day Livingston Parish off the coast of Louisiana during what would become known as Bloody Tuesday within three days of each other on April 9th-10th that year; this battle would be later cited by historian Douglas Southall Grant as one of American Civil War's decisive engagements. This event helped decide who controlled West Louisiana - Union or Confederacy - leading directly to several weeks long戦い lasting into May. Longview is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 66,533 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Midland County. The town of Longview was founded in 1876 by John Ladd and James Fenton as a community on the east bank of the Brazos River. The name originated from longitude readings made near Fort Worth in 1876. In 1910, Longview became an incorporated municipality with a population of 17,564. The present-day city was established in 1966 when it merged with nearby Midland City. As part of efforts to gain statehood for Longview and Midland County, TSU opened its main campus in downtown LongVIEW in 1984 and began awarding degrees regularly to residents therein instead of just those within the municipality boundaries since 1976; this change helped makeLongVIEW one of metropolitan areas within TXTX (the current term for Dallas-Fort Worth- Tyler) along with Arlington Heights IL and Plano TXA subregions that were also gaining more attention due to their strong economic development potential as well as expanding educational opportunities across all levels including higher education institutions such as Rice University and UT Austin without anywest side clustering or monopolyacht among these large metropolitan areas - what we now refer to as " Metropolitan Density ". Additionally between 2006-2009 TSU increased research funding by $14 million which has led to numerous new discoveries being made at their main campus including groundbreaking work on artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities for future business applications etcetera giving rise to what is sometimes referred to as " TSUTech ." In recent years there have been several attempts by various groups/ individuals seeking annexation into annexed cities such as McKinney (southwest corner), Flower Mound (northwest corner), Garland (northeast corner), Commerce City COA (eastern border northward) but no success yet . In November 1861 Texas's first gubernatorial election resulted in December 12th passage through both Houses under unusual circumstances: James Kenedy had been elected lieutenant governor only days before his inauguration while Dan Houston held office as acting governor after Sam Rayburn resigned over charges he offered bribes totaling $10,000 to influence state government operations
