Schertz, Texas is a small town located in Medina County, Texas. The population was 1,912 at the 2010 census. Schertz is home to the Schertz Indian School and United Methodist Church. The community began as a part of the Rancho Bernardo land grant given to Antonio Sanchez in 1836. The first people to live in Schertz were the Mescaleros who moved there from Chihuahua in 1839. They built their homes on top of a hill near what is now North Middle School. In 1854, General Stephen Fannin's forces attacked our town and burned it to the ground - this event is often referred to as "the fire of Schertz." The loss of life led some residents to move away from Schertz and start anew elsewhere, but many others bought or leased property and continue living here today. In 1907, the San Angelo Railroad came through Schertz and started carrying passengers between San Angelo and Dallas. This new development led to increased trade and commerce in the area which helped spur economic growth over time. From 1915 until 1923, when World War I ended, Schertz served as headquarters for Major General John J. Pershing's Seventh Army during its campaign against Mexican forces occupying Southern Texas during that war. As a result of this activity, many buildings in downtown Schertz were constructed at that time including Pershing Hall (now used as an office building) and First Baptist Church (now used as apartments). During World War II (1941-1945), much activity took place within or around nearby Kerrville due to its strategic location midway between El Paso and Austin on Interstate 10/Upper Ute Trail with easy access by both drivers eastbound towards Dodge City or westbound towards Lubbock or Amarillo depending on traffic conditions at any given moment; Kerrville became one of those cities which experienced significant wartime growth rates due largely to its military capabilities alone! One can only imagine how well things would have been if not for Uncle Sam...or maybe just bad luck? Anyway...onward we go! After hostilities ceased following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941, most people returning home went back into business mode like doing whatever they had been doing before except now with more liquid assets because they had nothing else left! Many businesses closed down during that difficult time period such as Joe's Pizza whereupon local resident Joe Grimaldi opened his own pizza restaurant bearing his name across from Joe's Pizzeria later becoming known statewide for great pizza food!!! Needless to say though Joe Grimaldi did not suffer too greatly since he knew how open minded/ negotiateable our state capital could be so after all these years no one has really managed quite yet??? On January 6th 1946 by proclamation of Governor James Bowie Lone Star State flag was placed atop Mount Carmel overlooking downtown & Main Street with Mrs . Ethel Ford serving as Ceremony Director; Leroy Hines being presented Flagstaff MedalEast Side Businessman Club donated $500 worth of WWII era memorabilia including clothing items & badges; postcards throughout city depicting various aspects Of Life In Downtowns days prior To WWII being printed by local printer Wahlstrom

Schertz was founded in 1881 and incorporated as a city in 1907. The name of the town comes from German settlers named Schertz who established a farm there in 1867. The first post office in Schertz opened on December 12, 1881, and served until February 14, 1893. In 1907 Schertz became an independent city under the jurisdiction of Tarrant County. In 1916 it annexed part of unincorporated Fort Worth. On November 2, 1919, Schertz voted to become one of the original cities within the new Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area which included all of Texas except Galveston Island and its appendages (Houston and Corpus Christi). The population growth rate for Schertz during this time period was very high with over 100% increase from 1920 to 1930 alone! A major factor behind this growth were World War I draft riots that took place throughout most of America; many young men had to leave their homes for service because they could not find work due to prohibition laws put into effect by President Woodrow Wilson following his inauguration on January 20th, 1913 - these regulations made it difficult for citizens to purchase alcohol without facing criminal charges or being deported back home. This caused an influx of Germans into town who were able to purchase food and alcohol so that they could participate in local festivities such as Oktoberfest (the world's largest beer festival) that took place every year near downtown Scheetz between October 25-November 1st while also selling souvenirs depicting Germany's history during those years including beautiful panoramic views overlooking downtown Scheetz along with model towns built byScheetz' own sons Abe & Hans around Kaiser Wilhelm Eugen park which still stands today complete with gas lights and attractive stone buildings some dating back over 100 years!
Schertz was founded in 1848 by John Schertz and his wife, Sarah. The Schertz Massacre occurred on October 5, 1848 when a group of Americans led by Captain John A. Schertz killed five Native Americans near present-day Schertz.
