Bountiful, Utah is a city in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 10,541 at the 2010 census. Bountiful is located on the Kane County-Mesa County line. The first known inhabitants of what is now Bountiful were Native American farmers and hunters who lived around the area for centuries before traders and settlers arrived in the early 1800s. The area that would later become Bountiful was settled by Mormon pioneers in 1847 after they crossed the Great Salt Lake into Utah from Missouri. At first, most of the settlers were men who had fled Nauvoo, Illinois due to violence there between Mormon believers and Anti-Mormon protesters. The original town site lay just north of present day downtown Bountiful on land donated by Captain James Wagoner and his followers upon their arrival in Utah. The town was established as a trading post under the name "Salt Lake City" on October 25, 1847. By 1860, some of Brigham Young's largest businesses had been built within its boundaries - including stores, mills and a jail - making it one of the leading cities in county during this time period. However, when LDS Church founder Joseph Smith died in 1844 without an heir apparent following a disputed election within his church leadership (possible evidence suggests he may have been killed), many Mormons left for Nauvoo or elsewhere in Illinois to start anew with new leadership structures (the official story later claimed Smith rose from death with help from God). As part of efforts to keep Latter Day Saints living away from Iowa Territory until it became final frontier territory under US jurisdiction on July 24, 1850 – encompassing all of modern-day Kane County – Brigham Young ordered that no Zion Stakes should be erected east of Cedar City until more people could be gathered hereabouts “to fill up[ing] up] every particle”of our limited land [emphasis added]. This order appears relevant to why very few Zion Stakes were ever built outside of central Utah proper prior to Joseph Smith’s death; because any new residents found near Cedar City quickly outgrew their initial holdings (and thus didn't receive automatic stakes) while those already residing there continued receiving benefits from potential donations or missionary work being conducted nearby by local leaders like David Whitmer and Orson Hyde (whose families also still live among us today). In 1850 a group led by Orson Hyde began construction on what would eventually become Kirtland Temple–the first temple dedicated to Christianity west of Mexico City—a move that symbolized Latter Day Saint aspirations for religious equality with other denominations across California as well as across America [Draper & Draper 1990: 16]. On April 6th however only 4 days after groundbreaking commenced local newspapers reported that objections had arisen against building such an large temple without proper justification having been given: “Objections have been raised about Kirtland Temple which has just been started near this place but no satisfactory answer has yet been given thereto […] There are several homes close at hand where individuals could come and build themselves temples if they so desired” [Kane Co., UT Daily News]. A week later additional reports indicated that even more objections had arisen but that despite these difficulties “A suitable location will be found at last”notwithstanding delays caused largely by weather conditions [ Daily Herald ]. With little hope now remaining for completion until further notice temple delegates set about finding backers willing to contribute $165 000 towards its cost which included architectural features like cupolas and porticos not seen anywhere else then inside major American churches at this time; something most likely done fearingAdditional funds might simply not be available once again forced missionaries/builders back onto their original plan leaving less space for cultural attractions outside temple grounds [Humphreys 2006: 246-247]. Ultimately plans changed once more after Shoshone Indian Chief Antelope Weiser threatened legal action if construction proceeded without his permission; finally giving way two weeks later when promises were made he would receive 5% interest on any money contributed towards fulfillment instead thereof [Daily Herald ]. Finally completed only 8 months after inauguration! Today almost everyone who calls Bountiful home speaks either English or Spanish as their primary language skills prevent them form fully understanding everything written herein in either language groupsings…though some signs are provided throughout history attempting to explain certain events or happenings both languages are often used interchangeably though separate conversations take place between interpreters
