Today's downtown area owes its genesis to a number of efforts led by local residents: First, officials from Salt Lake City designated Downtown Farmsborough as an official business district pursuant to ordinance passed on July 15, 1928; second, within a few years key citizens had developed plans for developing what would become what is now downtown; thirdly, following annexation by Salt Lake City in 1935 (and additional designation as a historic district), Streets & Valleys Department approval granted developers initial zoning rights for significant commercial development along State Street; fourthly through Planned Unit Development (PUD) legislation enacted by Mayor Harry Shearer which authorized hundreds new housing units to be built adjacent to long-existing businesses and residences; finally through voter approval – via Proposition 2 –of several major planned redevelopment projects which have characterized much of downtowns across central Utah throughout the last 50 years or so...The result has been an increasing skylineresidential concentration near Commercial Avenue with some excellent public transportation options available nearby including bus loading areas on six sides proximate to main roads...A large 3rd floor bank building located on Main Street directly across from Dye House still stands today providing retail banking services integral to many small businesses dating back over 100 years! Today more than 1 dozen restaurants share this level of exposure with numerous other cultural attractions making Downtown Farmsborough one highly visited destination year round!
