Layton is a city in Utah, United States. The population was 508 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. Layton is located on the Wasatch Front and has a temperate climate with average monthly temperatures in the mid-20s to low 30s. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Layton has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps. The first people who lived here were Paiute Indians. The town was named after George Hutton Layton, an American lawyer and politician from Ohio who served in Congress from 1903 to 1907. In 1847 Brigham Young gave orders that all Mormons must leave Utah before he did so would be considered Renegade Mormon activity against him as president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). As many as 1,500 men and women left for Wyoming or Colorado over winter; most went back when Nauvoo was founded in Illinois five months later. A few families stayed until March 1849 when they were ordered again by Brigham Young to leave for unknown reasons. About 60 people remained behind including John Taylor who built what became known as Tanner's House which still stands today on Main Street in Layton (). After some fighting between Mormons and non-Mormons over grazing rights near Tanner's House, LDS Apostle Lorenzo Snow ordered its demolition ceding all future grazing rights to non-Mormon farmerssteading thereabouts. After years of wrangling between church officials and settlers about land ownership, lay farmer Wm Sibley organized a group consisting of himself, his wife Mary Jane Sibley Perryman (1814–91), their three children George Washington Sibley (1821–1901), Franklin Dallin Sibley (1824–1900) and Florence Emily Marsh Sibley (1828–95) on October 14th 1850 square mile lot east one side of Weber’s Mill Road — now known as Four Corners Road—containing 6 acres () plusrights granted by Brigham Young to eighty more pioneers including David Whitmer along with 160 acres (), four miles east short track main road now State Route 8 called “Four Corners Road” west two miles long –later shortened to just two miles long due Crossing Point Community College campus being built just north then adjacent property line — southeast corner where Demolition began today northeast corner off US Highway 8 also called “Crossing Point Community College Campus” The original town site included: Front Street NW ±2 rods; Court Avenue NE ±1 rod; North Altar Drive SW ±1 rod; South Altar Drive NE ±1 rod; East Temple Drive SE ±4 rods (); West Temple Drive SE ±4 rods (); Territory Road SW 2½ rods (); present day laytonsite extending northwest 2 ½ blocks south

Layton, Utah is a town in Davis County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Layton was founded in 1847 by Brigham Young and his men as a Mormon settlement on the banks of the Bears River. It became a part of Ogden City in 1880. The original settlers were composed of Latter-day Saints who had followed Brigham Young from Nauvoo, Illinois. They built cabins and small farms near present-day Layton while they awaited instructions from Salt Lake City to move westward toUtah Territory under the US Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment. When word arrived that Congress had passed the constitutional amendment (amending Section 3 of the US Constitution), they decided to stay put and await further instructions before moving westward again. In 1847, Layton consisted of just twenty homes with a total population of only three people; however, it quickly developed into a thriving community with over one thousand residents by 1860 due to its location on the main trade route between Ogden City and Provo, UT. By 1865, many businesses had been established in Layton including grocery stores, flour mills, saddles and harnesses shops etc., which helped contribute to its growth even more. In 1892 lay out Mapleton village which later became Layton proper although it retains some vestige of its early self-reliance such as an independent school district A fire destroyed most of Main Street in downtown Layton on November 25th 1922; however local citizens rebuilt much faster than anyone could have expected given their lack of experience or resources - something that has become typical for these types of fires across America during this time period In 1959 Layton annexed Mapleton Village which then became known as "LayTON". The annexation provided for stronger representation for both communities within city hall making them better off economically while also giving residents more say in how their municipality functionsed
Layton was settled in the early 1800s by Mormons. The town was named after James Layton, a Mormon pioneer who helped found the town. The original buildings were built of logs and straw, and the first post office was established in 1828. In 1850, Layton became a county seat of Kane County. In 1864, it became a city and was renamed Layton City. The city experienced economical difficulties during World War II and lost its status as a city; however, it regained its name in 1945 when the population increased to over 100,000 people.
