The name NorthSaltLake was chosen because it would be unlikely for people living in this area to confuse it with neighboring Cedar City since both settlements were established about 20 miles apart at that time (it now stands at 122 thousand). The first town meeting held in North Salt Lake on September 22nd 1847 resulted in the election of three trustees: Ruben Crouch (a lawyer), George Waddington (an artist) and John Welch (a farmer). On October 1st two more trustees were elected; Alfred Schieffer (a builder) and Augustus Eaton (an engineer). Soon afterwards some 300 families had settled here making it one of the largest towns east of Missouri when it was platted out by James Bridger on November 6th 1847. At its peak during the late 1800s NorthSaltLake had a population of 3200 but by 1907 it had shrunk to 1075 due mainly to poverty caused by drought conditions throughout those years. In 1902 Brigham Young designated SouthSaltLake as the new home for all LDS missionaries while also authorizingOverridetheprovisionsofthe Anti-Mormon Act which barred LDS members from moving outside OFA boundaries without express permission from church leaders. This action effectively ended north-south trade between these two settlements which had been essential for cultural exchange among these pioneer groups since early days when Mormons split off from mainstream Christianity

North Salt Lake became a part of LDS Church territory after Joseph Smith's death on October 29th 1844 while attending Whitestone Farm near Carthage, Ohio
