Ammunition history in South Ogden, Utah began with the early days of firearms when pioneers and fur traders used gun powder to take down game. The first shot heard in South Ogden was fired in 1847 by John S. Yeates, an early settler. From that day on, the town's residents and businesses were based on the production of ammunition. The first factory in South Ogden was built by George Armstrong Custer during his 1871-1872 expedition into what is now Wyoming as part of his buffalo hunt. At that time, there were no law enforcement officers in Utah and so ammunition was a major factor in the outcome of these expeditions. The company manufacturing cannonballs for Custer's expedition, Armstrong & Co., still exists today and manufactures artillery rounds for both domestic and international markets. In 1896 Brigham Young convened a meeting to discuss methods for expanding Mormon settlements into eastern Utah Territory. One proposal put forth at this meeting called for using artillery rounds to damage Indian villages so that they would leave their land and establish new settlements elsewhere. As a result of this discussion, Winchester began producing Little Round

At this time ammunition consisted mostly of cannons powder and shot but also included grenades, pistols cartridges, rockets and bombs etc... After Napoleons death in 1815 large quantities of cannonballs became available so he ordered more munitions called “matchless balls” which weighed 1/2 lb each. These balls were made from lead or other heavy metals so they would not burst like common cannonballs did when they exploded inside a cannonball barrel

South Ogden, Utah is an agricultural town located in Kane County, Utah. The population was 7,513 at the 2010 census. The name "Ogden" is derived from the Oglala Sioux word "ahee," meaning "place where buffalo were gathered." According to one local legend, when Brigham Young moved his people to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, he named a small creek Ogden Creek after one of his companions on the journey, John A. Cullom. The town was platted in 1869 by William H. Alston and Jepson Haglund as a farming community on land purchased from the Ute people. The first store and post office opened in 1871. In 1904, South Ogden became part of Kane County and incorporated as a village. Today, South Ogden is a thriving community with many businesses and residences dating back to its early days as a farming community. Many of the buildings are still standing and offer interesting insights into early Utah history. Some of these include: the old courthouse which served as both municipal building and county hall until it burned down in 1955; Union Pacific's original depot which served as their main transportation hub for goods moving between Kane County and Salt Lake City; and Haglund's Mansion which housed some of Kane County's earliest settlers.

Founded in 1847 by James W. Pratt, South Ogden was a small town located on the banks of the Ogden River. The town grew and prospered until 1861, when it was destroyed by a tornado. After the tornado, South Ogden resumed its normal pace and development. In 1916, South Ogdemonts post office closed due to lack of mail service and was replaced by Ogden.
