The original name of Auburn was Chamberlin after Jock Mahlon Chambers who had donated land for a school district and also served as Township Administrator from 1912 until 1916 In 1946 local businessman Harry Fenton donated $15,000 towards building a new high school which would serve as the county's only educational institution east of Seattle until King's High School opened in 1957 in Tacoma On February 11th 1955 the Legislature passed Resolution No 1 providing for establishment within the township boundaries of Auburn High School District #1 with taxing powers over business enterprise within its borders
