In 1881, when the city of Seattle was founded, most of what is now Kenmore were taken from Kenmore City by Seattle-based developers in order to build their new city. According to one estimate, about 60% of all fruits and vegetables grown in Washington are produced within twenty miles (32 km) of Seattle; Kenmore's location near Rainier Valley make it an ideal place to do this kind of agriculture.

Kenmore is a small town in the US state of Washington. It is located on the Kenmore River, about 20 miles (32 km) south of Seattle and 11 miles (16 km) east of Olympia. The population was 5,554 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what is now Kenmore was Nicholas Metz in 1854. The town was platted on May 12, 1876 by J.W. Harper and Thomas Prentice with land grant from King County for $1,000 (). In 1896, George Washington Carver donated land to the town for a school and science center, which were built as part of a larger project called "Carver's Corner". In 1907-1908, local entrepreneurs organized an agricultural fair that drew 350 exhibitors from around the Puget Sound area. This event is considered to be the beginning of modern agriculture in the area. That same year saw construction begin on the Kenmore High School building that remains today one of Kenmore's most iconic landmarks. In 1921-22, construction began on what would become known as "the Works" – an integrated vocational/technical high school that served students from rural areas throughout King County until it closed in 1992 due to budget cuts. Kenmore hosted its first municipal election in 1912 when all but two members were appointed by Governor Newton Baker after he became governor following his inauguration as president of the United States (). The following year saw the incorporation of Kenmore into Puget Sound City; however, this merger never materialized and only came into effect when then–Mayor(s) Harry Hagendorf and Don Hitchcock merged their cities' governments into one under Mayor Hagendorf’s leadership in 1978 (). The city has undergone several name changes over time; including KenMOREegania during World War II; KINGstonia during prohibition era; CARVERstown during post-war period; finally Kennewick during early 21st century redevelopment effort
Kenmore is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Spokane metropolitan area since 2001. The name Kenmore comes fromKilldeer Creek and its tributaries which flow through the town. The creek's name was changed to Kenmore Creek in honor of General George Armstrong Custer who was killed near the creek in 1876. The first settler in what is now Kenmore were two families from Illinois who came overland during the Oregon Trail on November 1, 1859. They named their new place "Kenmore" after Killdeer Creek and its tributaries which flowed through their land then. A post office called "Kenmore" was established in 1861, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1923. The town grew rapidly due to lumbering and farming industries which developed around railroad lines coming into town as well as gold mining operations that began nearby in the late 19th century. By 1920, there were over 10 businesses operating within Kenmore proper including a grocery store, bakery, flour mill, livery stable and more. In 1951, when Interstate 5 bypassed downtown Spokane via East Benefit Street (now I-5 Alternate), KenMORE became an integral part of that freeway's routing with homes continuing to be built along East Benefit Street while businesses moved away to newer locations on I-5 Boulevard outside of town limits becoming known as "Boulevard West". In 2001, following annexations by other municipalities within King County (including Douglas and Maple Valley) KenMORE became a part of Spokane Metropolitan Area
