Kenmore is an incorporated town in Grant County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,921 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Yakima Valley metropolitan area. The town began as a small farmstead on the south side of the Yakima River near modern-day Kenmore Dam. In 1854, John Augusten founded what would become Kenmore, naming it for his father and namesake Augustus Ewing KenMORE (1798-1865). The initial plat included only a few homes and was submitted to Grant County commissioners on October 12, 1854. On November 2 of that year, commissioners voted to approve the plat and named it for General Ulysses S. Grant who had just been elected President that year and had visited Yakima Valley during his campaign travels. The village first grew around agricultural production—early settlers grew wheat, barley, oats, potatoes and other crops—but by 1880 industry had taken over with tannery operations being among the earliest businesses established in town. By 1910 there were 14 businesses in town with a total payroll of $97,000; today there are six businesses with an payroll greater than $100K but only one has more than 5 employees–theKenmore Paper Company which employs over 100 people! In 1905 when Yakima Valley became a federal reservation following Indian Removal Act of 1885 all white citizens were ordered to leave their properties within 10 days or face forcible removal. A group of men from neighboring towns formed "The West Side Cowboys" to resist this order and fought back against federal forces until mid-July when they retreated into their own communities without any damage done to anyone else’s property! This event is commemorated annually by True Patriot Day which falls on July 26th each year in commemoration of these cowboys who defied orders to leave their land! As per the Indian Removal Act all Native Americans living east of the Salmon River must leave by September 15th or be forcibly removed by soldiers under pressure from US Attorney General Elliot Duryea who claimed this as justification for taking over all western reservations! This order caused great anxiety among many local residents as they did not know where they would go or what would happen to them once their homes and belongings were taken away! On December 4th 1907 a group including some Kenmore citizens took up arms against US Forces leading to what would become known as "The Battle for Kenmore" which ended with no victors but rather several casualties on both sides! During World War II most manufacturing stopped while materials were diverted towards war effort; however some shops reopened after the war due to increased demand from postwar consumers. In 1951Kenmore joined Washtenaw County through annexation though much growth has occurred since then including erection of new buildings such as government center/ courthouse complex & school district administration wing (1960), expanding shopping mall (1985), annexation of adjacent jurisdictions (1991), establishment of forest park (1997) & current development including new housing projects (2009). Today Kenmore boasts one Walmart Supercenter+, two gas stations & two Pizza joints amongst other newer developments along its Main Street corridor

The area became part of Virginia after the American Revolution and then D.C. following the Treaty of Paris in 1783. The Kenmore area was annexed to D.C. on July 16, 1961, as a result of the Uprising of August 28, 1961 against D.C.'s incorporation into America as a separate country under President John F Kennedy's New Frontier Doctrine.
