Kenmore is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 9,561 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest incorporated municipality in King County and it has the distinction of being the only community to be created from scratch by the county in its history. Kenmore's citizens have been known for their hard work and dedication to their community, which has led to various successes over the years. The first settlers to what is now Kenmore were farmers who arrived in 1854. They started raising livestock and beginning construction of a sawmill on an existing creek. After several years of progress, they sold the mill to a group of businessmen who built a gristmill on land that they had acquired west of town. By 1870, there were six businesses operating in Kenmore - four mills, one grocery store and one wagon shop. In 1875, local resident Hapgood Cramer donated land east of town for a courthouse square which would become home to many local events including dances and picnics during summer months. In 1916-17, Mayor George Bendixen organized city government for Kenmore with his idea that it should have an elected board rather than just one man running everything like most cities then did. This was an important step because it allowed city council decision-making about essential services such as water rates and trash collection without central control from City Hall. With this change in policy came increased transparency and accountability for all aspects of municipal life. During World War II, much effort went into building up economic vibrancy within Kenmore so that when war came around our citizens became troops or civilians working together day/night longATHERESTLY! A large number single women took on jobs doing things like cleaning German tanks while others ran stores or made munitions products! Some people still think back today about those early days (late 1940s) as “the good old days”! In later years we lost some members of our community but through service clubs like Stonington United Methodist Church we have kept alive some traditions that have helped make our community strong: Our collective memory always includes stories about somebody who served or supported us during these difficult times; religious service provided by either Jehovah’s Witnesses or Lutheran pastors; baseball games at night at Joe Garvey Park; lots of singing inside church after services………..all without any solicitation from anyone!
