Kenmore is a town in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,831 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The first settlers of what is now Kenmore were farmers and their families who arrived around 1824. The name "Kenmore" was given to them by Captain John Forbes of the navy ship " Discovery ". They built a log cabin on the present site of Kenmore in 1827. A post office was established there in 1828 and remained in operation until 1907. In 1846, Samuel Ladd became one of the first Settlers in this area when he took up land near modern-day Issaquah Creek on Elliott Bayou. He named his tract "Ladd's Landing." This spot became known as Kenmore after Mr. Ladd's family bought it from George Vancouver for $5 per acre (about $ today). The early residents did not have any slaves and they raised chickens, pigs, cows and horses on their property until 1861 when they started to use hogs for meat production because there was no other food source available north of Tacoma at that time. In 1865, James Wylie moved from Issaquah to farm about two miles east of where he currently lives to start raising hogs as well which eventually led him to become one of Kenmore's most famous citizens.
