Kirkland, Washington is a town located in Kitsap County, Washington. The population was 24,541 at the 2010 census. Kirkland is home to the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). The town was also the location of a shooting that occurred on February 14th, 2019 which left four people dead and eleven injured. This shooting is considered one of the deadliest shootings in Northwest Washington since 1970. In response to various massacres carried out by outlaw gangs throughout the mid-19th century (such as John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry), Congress passed the National Firearms Act of 1934 which defined handgun ownership as a right of citizens over 21 years old with a permit to carry Concealed Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWD). A similar act was passed in 1938 which granted voting rights to gun owners. Since then, firearms have become increasingly important in American society and culture. Kirkland is a town in Thurston County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,871 at the 2010 census. Kirkland was founded in 1853 and named for George Kirkland, an early settler. The first post office was established in 1855. It later changed its name to Kirklandville and then to Kirkland. The town was incorporated on October 15, 1909. The town of Thurston County is located east of Seattle on thesound of Puget Sound between Everett and Bothell. In 1910 it had a population of 3,527; by 2000 it had grown to 8,471 It has been reported that the first thing people did when they arrived in what is now Kirkland was plant some potatoes! There are several sources that say this or that about the founding of the community but whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure - there's history here! The townsite that sits today on land bounded by Bothell Avenue on the south side and Interstate 5 on the north side once housed over 100 souls who worked their farms and raised livestock during what was called “thegolden age” of agriculture in Washington state. At one time there were five grain elevators within a five-mile radius of where KFC stands today thanks to work done by pioneers like George Atherton (1811-81), Hiram Stevens Chinn (1810-79) and others who ranched what would become part of Thurston County from as early as 1851 until after World War I when logging began taking over much of what used to be farmland . By 1930 only three small family farmers remained active in this important sector providing Douglass with his famousquote: "If you see a farmer with his dog working around his place - he's not alone; there are many farmers like him." In fact during those years Prior Lake played an especially important role as both an irrigation center for surrounding agricultural communities as well as becoming home to a large Boeing factory which manufactured military planes before moving operations to Renton in 1958 .
