Mount Vernon is a small town in Washington County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bend-based city of Bend. The first Europeans to visit the area were fur traders from Vancouver Island in 1792. French trappers and missionaries followed in 1805–1807 and Indian traders brought back slaves in 1810. In 1830, John C. Frémont explored the eastern slopes of Mount Vernon and named it for George Washington because he could not find any other reference to him there. A post office was established at Mount Vernon in 1847, but no residents lived there until 1861 when Professor Augustus Mitchell built a house on the site and opened a school that year. The town was platted in 1865 by Jeptha Bayne as an agricultural community with stores, churches, schools, and residences around a central square or business district. The name "Vernon" originated with this development although some say it may be derived from "vernal," meaning springtime or new life (the word's original use). In 1912 Portland developer Harry Chandler bought land east of Vernon and subdivided it into lots for housing; much of what remained today is now known as Northwest Portland’s Uptown neighborhood. That same year Vernons merged with nearby unincorporated communities Goldendale to form one municipality which continued to exist until 1975 when its boundaries were changed by then-Govt.-appointed commissioners who had jurisdiction over only part of Oregon Street between Townsend Road South and Interstate 5 south (later renamed NE Portland). Northwest Portland incorporated as an independent city on January 1, 1976 As recently as 2008 Mount Vernon's ZIP code 97217 had about 2200 people living within its borders including many farmers who grew corn on their properties near Interstate 5; however those farms are now gone due to market fluctuations since 2009 Climate change has caused more damage to these types of farming operations than anyone could have imagined given current weather patterns As such most residents have left for greener pastures outside Bend or outside Oregon altogether Some aspects that make Mount Vernon unique include its history dating back over 160 years plus its wide variety of architecture making it an interesting study even if you don't especially enjoy design trends; also all the buildings have been preserved intact pretty much unchanged since they were built so you can still see them up close like nobody else does

Mount Vernon is a historic plantation in the town of Mount Vernon, Loudoun County, Virginia. It was founded by George Washington in 1791 and became his retirement home and main estate. The house, which is now a museum, was built between 1792 and 1800. The plantation was originally part of the larger family-owned land grant that George Washington received as an inheritance from his father John Adams. The farmstead consists of 9 contributing buildings: 1st floor (1792), 2nd floor (1801), 3rd floor (1802–3), 4th floor (1804), 5th floor (1805–6), 6th floor (1807–8), 7th Floor Annexe( 1809) and 8th Floor( 1810). In addition to its original structure, Mount Vernon has been extensively remodeled over time including adding additional floors, wings and annexes. The property includes over 230 acres () including rolling countryside with views of the Potomac River Valley below and Mason Dixon Hills to the north; nearly all of which were used for plantations or other agricultural purposes until the mid-19th century when they were converted into parkland surrounding the mansion. Today, Mount Vernon is open to the public as a museum with exhibits on both its history and architecture. Its gardens offer a mix of classical styles typical of early 19th century America while its extensive grounds provide ample opportunity for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, playing tennis or golfing.
The Mount Vernon estate was founded in 1785 by George Washington. The property consists of an entire hill, which is now the site of the White House, as well as several smaller estates.
