The history of optical accessories in Huntington, West Virginia goes back to the early 1800s. Early Opticians in Huntington sold lenses, spectacles, and other optical equipment to residents of the town. By 1892, there were over seventy Opticians in Huntington. Optical equipment was often used for industrial purposes such as measuring weights or checking production rates. In the 1920s, innovative new technology led to the development of Air-Coupled Oscilloscope (AO) machines and Photoelectric Scanner (PES). These machines allowed scientists and engineers to inspect products at various depths below the surface of a product while it was still being produced. During World War II, Optical Instrumentation Corporation developed Airborne Laser radar receivers and transmitters that were used by American forces during The War.

Huntington is a town in Huntington County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 8,583 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Huntington County. The name "Huntington" comes from the French word "hôtel de ville," meaning "city hall." The first Europeans to visit what is now Huntington were traders and missionaries who journeyed through this area in 1624-25. Englishman John Smith also visited this area in 1627. In 1703, George Washington surveyed this area for the state of West Virginia and named it after his friend Commodore George Washington's father-in-law, Colonel James Hunter. From these surveying activities began what would become one of America's most important transportation routes: the Kanawha River corridor formed by the rivers Ohio and Shenandoah Rivers flows through Huntington Valley which runs parallel to I-81/I-81W across its northern border before descending into Mingo County to form the Ohio River again just south of downtown Harrisonburg; then continuing southwest along US Routes 27 and 41 until it reaches an intersection with US Route 20 east of Morgantown; then turning southeast on US 20 until it intersects I-81/I-81W near Romney; and finally turning northwest on I-81/I- 81W until it reaches exit 7 (Upper Kanawha Road) outside Morgantown. In 1815, when President James Ketchum appointed General Andrew Jackson as Commander in Chief of all American forces in West Virginia Territory during Indian War II, he selected Huntington as site for Fort Necessity (later known as Fort Knox), which became operational on November 1, 1815 just over two months after Ketchum's inauguration as President of the United States. At that time only about 10% of present day eastern Kentucky was included within West Virginia Territory - much less southwestern Virginia including Huntington proper - but Ketchum saw potential for establishing a strategic permanent military base here in order to prevent British incursions into our territory during Indian Wars II and III that had been ongoing intermittently since 1794 when Britain ceded Cadillac Township west of Pittsburgh to France under Treaty #5 although we still claimed land east of Mason–Dixon line (Cadillac Township lay between Aliquippa Creek watershed to the north and Monongahela River watershed to the south). The fortifications built at Fort Necessity later served as a prison for Confederate general Robert Ewell during Union Army operations against Richmond throughout 1865; Hampton Roads Campaign operations immediately following Union surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865 where General Robert Ewell surrendered with his entire army including Generals Joseph Hooker commanding First Corps Yankees bottled up insideFort Knox until relieved by Union unit commanded by Major General William Tecumseh Sherman early next morning resulted in nearly 2 thousand dead or dying Confederate Soldiers as well as large numbers civilian casualties due both from artillery bombardments blasting open supply lines insidefort Knox while also storekeepers looting like cowboys done every other place Rebels had abandoned their equipment including minesweepers scouring banks adjacent river bottom looking for buried treasure dumps worth millions more gold & silver bullion than ever found before or since near Appomattox Court House; total tonnage value estimated at $130 million prior thereto & today’s value approximately $160 million
In 1877, a Danish scientist named Ole Worms developed the first practical optical instrument, the worm-eye lens. In 1888, German physicist Johannes Stark built the first true holographic mirror. These advances helped make photography and other visual technologies possible. Optical accessories have come a long way since then!
The first true optical accessories were watchcases. In 1795, a Swiss watchmaker, Johann Ziegler, patented the first adjustable mirror for a wristwatch. By 1846, watches had become widely popular and began to require additional optical equipment to read the time. Thanks in part to advances in photography and lithography, watches became available with more advanced features by the early 1800s.
Huntington was founded in 1795 by Nicholas-Jacques Huntington and his brother, John. The town became a stop on the Underground Railroad for fugitive slaves. In 1827, it was renamed Huntington after Nicholas-Jacques's nephew, James W. Huntington. When James W. Huntington died in 1851, the town reverted to its original name and changed its government from a democratic form of government to an oligarchy under the leadership of George Washington Woodruff. In 1959, the town passed an act creating West Virginia University and giving it veto power over all state legislative proposals not related to higher education. The university has since become one of America's most prestigious institutions with campuses in Morgantown and Blacksburg.
Huntington is a city in West Virginia, United States. Huntington was founded on November 3, 1824 by James K. Polk and his father-in-law, George Washington Carver. The city grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its position on the Ohio River and its access to freight and trade routes.
