The popularity of this type of mount led to development by other firearm manufacturers into similar designs such as Weaver's basic 'T' style scope mounting system which became popular through the mid-19th century followed by Millett's improved 'B' style design which became well known during World War II both because it could hold multiple rounds magazine inside its housing/tube and because it featured adjustable turrets that permitted experimentation with various sighting configurations including open sights over 100 meters (.320 yards).
