Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin is a town on the west side of the Milwaukee River in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. Chippewa Falls was first settled by English colonists in 1785 and became a town in 1836. In 1907, it merged with Racine to form the city of Milwaukee.

Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin is a city in the U.S. state ofWisconsin and the county seat of Dane County. The population was 61,342 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Fox River, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Milwaukee and 30 miles (48 km) north of Madison. Chippewa Falls is one of the largest cities in Wisconsin with a population over 100,000 people density and a beige-collar cultural profile typical of Midwestern small towns. The river that passes through Chippewa Falls is named for two Ottawa Indians who were missionaries to this area during the 1830s: Father Marquette and Father George Ripley. Father Marquette's Camp on Green Bay was also located near present-day ChippEWa Falls; it served as an early depot for fur trade goods entering Lake Superior from upper Michigan Territory. In 1835, when Minnesota became a state, ChippEWa Falls became its territorial capital and continued to serve as its territorial capital until 1849 when it was transferred to Milwaukee after that state's admission into the Union. During World War II, many American troops including General Dwight D Eisenhower spent time at Camp Grayling which stood just east of downtown ChippEWa Falls before being moved upriver for Operation Crossroads in September 1944 near present day Waukesha Rapids; thenceforth it served as Eisenhower's headquarters until his death in April 1945 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania en route to World War III. The area now occupied by downtown ChippEWa falls was built up around these military facilities during the war years with modest housing developments taking shape between 1951-1962 known collectively as "Chappaqua". Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin is a small town located in the western portion of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 9,831 at the 2010 census. Chippewa Falls is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha Metropolitan Statistical Area and it is included in the Milwaukee-West Allis Combined Statistical Area. The name "Chippewa" comes from two variant forms of a Sioux word meaning 'to fall or trip over'. The first form, "chippiwin", means 'the falls where the water makes a loud noise like thunder' and so this place was known as 'Falls Township', while later it was changed to 'Chippewa Falls'. Today both names still refer to one and same place - Chippewa Falls! The story of Chippewa Falls begins with Chief Menomonee's journey downriver in 1824 on an important expedition to find new land for his people. Along the way he met many interesting people including traders and missionaries who taught him about white man's ways. After spending some time living among them, Chief Menomonee decided that this land would be best suited for his village, which he named after his home village in Canada: Chippawa (present-day Green Bay). With help from some other chiefs and their families, Menomonee built a strong Village on their new land – one that has continued to thrive until today. In 1835 men from Hudson’s Bay Company founded Fort Snelling on what is now Racine Peninsula near Milwaukee. This fort served as a trading post between America and Great Britain until it was abandoned in 1846 when all British trade posts were closed by President James K Polk because of US hostility towards Great Britain following its victory in World War 1. A year later, on December 3rd, 1836 men from Manitowoc County arrived at Chippawa Landing looking for new land to settle after purchasing 8 acres along River Road east of present day Ankeny Park Boulevard near Watertown Center Mall parking lot; they called their location “New Beginnings” due to its virgin territory which no one else had yet claimed! In 1840 Menomonee’s Village grew even larger with 9 residents including 6 children under 5 years old who lived with their parents inside the Village Walls! These days you can still see these walls today just across Ankeny Park Boulevard from Watertown Center mall! In 1840 also government officials authorized erection of an official brick courthouse next door to Menomonee’s Village Walls but this building did not take hold until 1862 when local contractor John Mapes erected a frame courthouse used today by District Court Judge Edward J Ziegler (1862-1970) during his tenure as County Executive/County Clerk beginning January 1st, 1969 until September 30th 1974 inclusive! It should also be noted that original redbrick jail which stood adjacent to Ankeny Park Blvd adjacent to current day Waukesha County Courthouse before being razed c1960 is also documented as having been built at least partially using lumber obtained from Chippawa FallsVillage Walls!! This event demonstrates how long ago construction actually began on many beautiful buildings within our town currently standing within Walking distance!!! Glenn Ladd Trustee
The Chippewa Falls Dam was a major engineering feat of the early 20th century. The dam was built on the Missouri River by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in order to create a hydroelectric power plant. The dam is one of only two in the United States, and the only artificial riverine barrier in North America, separating mountain water from lower lying Missouri River water. The dam was completed in 1914 and has been used for many purposes including flood control, irrigation, generation of electricity and recreation. Today, it remains an important part of Wisconsin's water supply and heritage.
