The community grew rapidly because of its access to water and land resources; today most of the original buildings still stand including three churches—the First Methodist Church (1870), Stonewall Jackson High School (1930), and Lincoln Elementary School (1937)—an ice cream parlor, two banks/credit unions, six newspapers/newspapers services providers including five daily papers with staffs from outside of Wyoming Territory until 1978 when one paper folded into another newspaper company creating what are now just four newspapers: The Ager Tribune-Gazette (www.agertribune.com), The Daily Eagle (www.dailyeagleonline dot com or delawareonline dot org), Rocky Mountain News (www.rockymountainnews dot com) Evanston has been home to many famous people including Milton Berle who lived there from 1923-29 and wrote his successful Broadway production "The Lone Ranger" in 1948 while still living in Wichita Falls, TX; members of Congress such as John Ashcroft; movie stars like Cary Grant and Shirley Temple; Olympians Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin who were both astronauts on Apollo 11; Ulysses S Grant Woodruff who founded West Point Academy before serving as Postmaster General during Reconstruction in America's South Evanston has also served as a filming location for several movies such as producer Sam Mendes' "Skyfall", director Peter Jackson's "The Lord Of THE Rings: Age Of Arda", "" ("A Better Tomorrow"), ""("World War Z")". Additionally much popular music is filmed here like Nickelback's debut album which took place at Lincoln Elementary School studios across from West Point Academy
