In 1881, Rock Springs was founded by Nathan Bedford Forrest and his partners. The town had a population of about 100 people when it was built. within a few years, the population had increased to 350 people, and in 1893 Rock Springs became the first city in Wyoming. The first gun parts factory in Rock Springs was built on Elm Street. It operated from 1881-1892. The factory made rifles and shotguns, ammunition, and other firearms products. At its peak production, the factory produced 2 million pieces of firearms per year. In addition to manufacturing firearms for the American public, the company also exported weapons to many countries around the world. The town of Rock Springs experienced a number of natural disasters during its early years: a fire that destroyed much of the town in 1881; an avalanche that caused significant damage to buildings in 1893; and an tornado that struck the town on October 3rd, 1899 which killed 15 people and injured over 50 more. However, these events did not dent the popularity or success of Gun Parts Factory as it continued operations until 1993

Rock Springs is a small town located in Fremont County, Wyoming. It was founded in 1868 by the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians as a trading post on the banks of the Green River. In 1876, Rock Springs became an official U.S.ghost town when Congress passed the Reservation Act which established Indian reservations in Wyoming. The towns name originated from springs that bubbled up near the post office and its location suited the springs perfectly because it was at an elevation above most of central Wyoming. Rock Springs experienced some turbulence during its early years but quickly regained its reputation for being a superb place to live, work, and raise families. The town has been popular with tourists for over 100 years and today it remains one of the most vibrant communitys in Fremont County. There are numerous cultural attractions such as several museums, theaters, and galleries within walking distance of each other; plus there are also several restaurants and bars around town that offer excellent food options priced affordably.
The first permanent European settlement in present-day Rock Springs was established by the fur trader David Thompson on July 17, 1804. The town was named for General John Custer, who died in battle near the town on July 25, 1876. In 1861, the US military burned all of the buildings in Rock Springs to discourage Mexican incursions into this area.
