Rock Springs, Wyoming is a small town located in the Laramie County seat of Sheridan. It was founded in 1868 by General James Connor and named after Holster horse corrals at Springerville. The first post office in Rock Springs was established in 1870. In 1907, the population of Rock Springs was 1,500. During World War II, Rock Springs served as the setting for the Battle of White Sands Missile Range between United States Army troops and Japanese forces. The town has experienced many changes over its history including being renamed to Cody in 1912 and again to Sheridan in 1948. The most recent name change took place on November 1, 2017 when the community became known as Holstertown after Orin Hatch's company bought the town from its previous owners. Orin Hatch is an entrepreneur who has been instrumental in helping Rock Springs become a thriving small Town culture and business center with multiple restaurants, bars, two golf courses, a library and more.

How do we define it? And how does one go about compiling such a comprehensive record? The term “holster” has been around since the 16th century. It was derived from the French word “holaire,” meaning to cover or protect something. So, in essence, an early holster would have been nothing more than a piece of cloth or leather strap that was worn over the shoulder like a belt. By the 18th century, however, there were actually two main types of holsters: open-back and closed-back. Open-backs allowed you to draw your weapon free while wearing them, while closed-backs were locked onto your arm by means of straps which prevented you from drawing your weapon without taking off the holster (and potentially exposing your skin). This difference in design led to some interesting – and sometimes dangerous – situations when it came to carrying firearms (for example, see open-backed revolver vs closed-back rifle holsters). By 19th century standards, though, there was quite a bit of progress being made in holster technology. Holsters had become more comfortable to wear and use; they now featured adjustable fitments so that they could be tailored to your specific body shape; and most importantly, they became less likely to fall off or lose their function altogether over time.
