By 1800, there were about 100 people living in Alabaster. In 1820, General Andrew Jackson arrived in what is now Marshall County and began land acquisition which would make Alabaster an incorporated municipality by 1830. In 1865, Confederate General Jubal Early's army destroyed most of Mobile with his "March on Mobile" when he entered Alabama. This event served as a turning point for many residents because it made them realize that they could no longer neutrality watch while their friends were being killed or enslaved. After this event many Confederate soldiers spent time in Alabama before returning home to fight again south of the Tennessee line. In 1892, white man John Waddell built a sawmill on White Settlement Creek which soon became known as Waddell's Mill due to its production of lumber from that location only until 1913 when it closed due to lack of demand for lumber in post World War I America Alabaster experienced growth during the late 19th century thanks to various businesses such as: The Masonic Lodge (1893), J C Drake & Sons (1912-1960), The Coca Cola Bottling Company (1915), The First Baptist Church (1900). There was also an oil well discovered at Red Mountain which caused production growth at Waddell's Mill until 1915 when it too closed down; however some relics still remain from that era including a locomotive used for transportation within the mill complex today! As America transitioned into World War II both war industries boomed with aluminum being produced at Waddell's Mill starting 1942 until 1945; however after Pearl Harbor Alabaster lost much industry due to strict wartime regulations regarding exports essential materials like aluminum couldn't be shipped out easily without losing quality control processes plus Japanese submarines were lurking off shore making shipping difficult so production stopped completely until 1951! Another slowdown came during 1957-1959 when environmental concerns led to several mills closure including Waddell’s butProduction increased afterAlabama created its own aluminum alloy program Thanks largely to Aluminum Corporation of America effective May 1st 1959 manufacturing recommenced fully powered by new technology utilizing coke ovens imported from Europe!!

Alabaster, Alabama is a city in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 7,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jefferson County. Alabaster was founded in 1821 by General John Crouch and named for the alabaster or natural whiteness of the ground thereabouts. Alabaster was an important early center of cotton production in Alabama and has been known as a "gathering place" for local farmers since before statehood. In 2002, Alabaster was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its Historic Districts National Monument and Oak Grove Cemetery. The first white person to settle in what is now Alabaster was Capt. John Crouch who arrived with his family on April 3, 1821 from Kentucky via Mobile Bayou. He named his new settlement after himself - Alabasters (meaning "the white ground"). Cotton farming became an important industry in early days and many people used their land to raise subsistence crops while also manufacturing items such as pottery and hatschet tools made from hardwood trees found nearby woods that were treated with lime to make them white again. The well-known cedar tree nearby served as both the town's first courthouse building (1824) and jail until it burned down in 1851; however, evidence suggests that this building may have been replaced by another more recent structure at some point during its history Alabaster became a city on July 1, 1907 when it incorporated as a result of an act of Congress approved by Ulysses S Grant during his presidency. The name change reflected the growing importance of transportation alongAlabama's Gulf Coast which had begun to develop following completion of the railroad between Mobile and Pensacola in 1869 . After years of growth by ordinance vote only 2 percent of voters participated in referendums throughout 1907-1911 allowing for annexation into other municipalities including Birmingham but no formal annexation occurred until 1912 when City Council voted 5-0 to become part of Birmingham proper
