Alexander City was founded in 1851 by General J.E.B. Stuart, a hero of the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War. The city was named for General James Alexander, who fought at Monterrey in 1846 and led cavalry charges against Mexican forces during the war. In 1865, General Andrew Johnson issued an order to move all Confederate troops from Chattanooga to Alexander City so that they could be disarmed and processed into military prisons in Georgia. The city’s main thoroughfare, State Street, became known as “Johnson Avenue” after President Johnson moved his headquarters from Atlanta to Alexander City on May 25, 1865. Sibley shot at two handguns using targets made of oakum (a type of rags) placed inside a case or barrel made of hickory wood or other hardwood stuck upright with a stickpin at one end). These churches served as community center/shooting galleries for many years until 2005 when both buildings were demolished to make way for a new public library complex which is now called First Baptist Library & Museum . In 1935, an outdoor pool was created within city limits by purchasing land adjacent to Pershing Park off West Seventh Street NW . This pool still exists today - it is used for fun purposes only!

The current court house/government building complex was constructed north of town in 1959 on land donated by Mrs. Averill Caldwell which has been used for government functions ever since including courthouse services until 1992 when new construction began on what is now known as Courthouse Square across from Town Hall (formerly known as Central High School). This project cost $5 million dollars and included both an addition toCourthouse Square which seats 500 plus inside and an addition to Court House Annex which houses municipal offices with additional room for overflow overflow rooms if necessary; both projects are currently being renovated into their present form with hope of completing them within their planned time frame which would then mark courthouse history back to when Alexander City first became a city!
