Center Point is a town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,918 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile–Troy–Marietta, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The original settlers in Center Point were Methodist missionaries who arrived in 1837. In 1836, James Fenton organized an agricultural society and platted a townsite on the east side of Centre Point Creek. The first store opened in Centre Point on November 17, 1836 by Fenton and his associate Isaac Rouse. By 1840, Centerpoint had a population of 20 residents and two churches. A post office was established at Centrepoint on October 10, 1840. In 1845, Benjamin Blackmore organized a wagon train from Decatur to Mobile with supplies for General Andrew Jackson's army during the Mexican-American War. On July 24 of that year, Blackmore's wagon train was attacked by Indians near present day Clarksville and all but one man were killed or captured; Blackmore escaped with only $200 worth of goods including eight saddles and three bridles left behind him. In 1865 Centerpoint became the site of battles between Confederate forces under General Robert Ewell Jackson and Union troops under Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Pickett when Union forces attempted to cross Centerpoint creek bed foraging for food near Cullman Hillock Station Road/Highway 8 north of town limits on September 11th before retreating back across Centerpoint creek bed following heavy Confederate artillery fire from Battery Sumter located just inside town limits on that date as part of Battle Of Cullman Hillock Station Road/Highway 8 which resulted in no loss by either side but hundreds injured or dead including many civilians (estimated up to 2,500). After Reconstruction ended in late 1870s most center point residents migrated away looking for new opportunities while some continued to live there until around 1910 when it lost its status as an incorporated municipality within Marshall County due to lack ofpopulation growth or business development outside the small downtown area after which it slowly declined until becoming defunct again around 2000 when it lost its municipal status once again due to low population size

Center Point is a town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile-Tuscaloosa-Ala. Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town started as a small farming community in 1881 and grew rapidly due to its location on the Cahaba River between Tuscaloosa and Mobile. In 1907, it became an official town under the name "Center Point" after the original center of development near the banks of the river. The name change was due to growing concern over possible confusion with nearby towns such ascentersville and Gadsden which had also grown rapidly since 1907. In 1925, CenterPoint annexed parts of Eufaula and Fairhope which made it one of the largest municipal incorporations in Alabama history at that time. During World War II, CenterPoint served as a munitions production site for Birmingham until 1944 when it moved to Marengo Mills in rural Jefferson County where it continued manufacturing munitions until 1974 when all production ended due to post-war austerity measures by then Governor Orval Faubus. Today, CenterPoint is home to many small businesses and has seen some growth since its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s; however much of this has been attributed to new construction projects such as an entertainment complex called Renaissance Place that opened in 2009 and replaced an old cotton gin located just outside town limits. Additionally, downtown Centre Point has seen major redevelopment over recent years with several large office buildings being built along Main Street including One Financial Plaza (now known as One Alabama Plaza) across from Renaissance Place and another large building being built on Railroad Avenue just south of centrepoint park which will soon house a Target store according to plans filed with the city government late last year While most residents are still farmers or workers who rely heavily on agriculture based subsistence economy heavy reliance on local employment remains today while other sectors have experienced rapid growth but are not yet selfsufficient; nonetheless efforts are underway by both Centre Point Mayor John Hodge (D) & City Councilmember Lauryn Glover (R)Months ago they submitted revisions to proposed regulations governing business operations within CentrePoint limits...the aim is for these revised regulations not onlyto modernize business procedures but also provide more flexibility for larger businesses wishingTo expand beyond their current footprint within centre pointlimits administrative boundaries."
In 1819, General James Wilkinson of the United States Army was appointed as PostmasterGeneral of Alabama. Wilkinson's directive called for the erection of a post office at Center Point on the Alabama River, in order to better serve the population. The first post office at Center Point opened on July 1, 1819. The river itself served as a transportation corridor between central and south Alabama, and also connected Centrepoint with nearby Mobile and Huntsville. The development of railroads in early 19th century southeastern United States facilitated trade between Centrepoint and other parts of the region. In 1875, an act was passed by Congress establishing a Territorial Commission to manage land east of Mobile Bay within what is now Montgomery County. This commission developed plans for creating a county seat at Centrepoint, but no action was taken until 1886 when Congressman Robert Hoke offered to donate land adjacent to his home for the purpose. The donation resulted in construction of the present-day Montgomery County Courthouse (now known as Lady Bird Johnson Presidential Library).
