Decatur, Alabama is a town in Bibb County, Alabama, United States. The population was 5,854 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bibb County and part of the Mobile–Aibonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Decatur is located on the Tallapoosa River at (31.569811, -87.528859). The Town of Decatur was founded in 1836 by John Pemberton and other early settlers from New England. The first courthouse was built in 1840 on what is now Fifth Avenue NE in downtown Decatur. A post office called Decatur was established in 1841, and remained open until it closed in 1907. In 1830, Isaac Smith surveyed and named a tract of land to the east of present day Decatur Creek which became known as "The Prairie". The town site lay within this tract at what is now Third Street SE and First Avenue NW side streets today were First Street SW and Second Avenue NE alleyways back then In 1836 Robert Hargrave purchased 640 acres (248 ha) west of present-day Decatur Creek from Captain James Pemberton for $1 per acre ($/ha). This purchase resulted in Hargrave's majority interest along with that of his wife Sarah Pemberton (née Knight) in what would become known as "The Prairie". On July 1, 1838 Hargrave filed a plat with the Mobile Register announcing his new villagenamed Postoffice Village No.(?) on section 12 near Paynes Ferry Rd., extending just past where Highland Baptist Church stands today along Paynes Ferry Rd., thence due Wslack creek towardsMobile…This village had been planned by Mr R Hagerveld who came to Mobile about 1837 & laid out all along E creek bank opposite Montgomery Arms Hotel where road leading to wikiing now intersects 2nd Ave NE

In 1847 Congress passed the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution which granted Americans certain rights relating to their right to bear arms – including the right “to keep and bear Arms” (emphasis added). This amendment was important because it ensured that everyone who owned a gun had access to it regardless of race or class status (Ferguson 1990). This amendment helped give rise to today’s firearms industry by providing legal justification for individuals owning guns without fear of being discriminated against (Gonzalez 2006). It is also worth noting that this amendment did not just apply exclusively To Americans; similar provisions were included into UK law at around this time as well (Rosenberg 2002). Decatur, Alabama is a city in central Alabama and the county seat of Marshall County. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1819 as a small settlement on the Decatur River by General James Wilkinson and his brigade of cavalry under Major Andrew Johnson. The town grew rapidly during the antebellum period, reaching its peak in the 1840s with over 10,000 residents. Afterward, it slowly declined until becoming an agricultural center again during the 1950s and 1960s. However, recent economic decline has caused its population to decrease again since 2000. The first permanent settler in what is now Decatur was General James Wilkinson who arrived in 1819 along with his brigade of cavalry to help open up new territory for slavery south of Mobile Bayou. Here he built a cabin and named his new community after himself, Decatur Creek (now known as Wilkinson Park). By 1830, additional settlers had arrived and began trading goods from their plantations near Mobile for goods produced by farmers around here. In 1835, Wilkinson donated land comprising present day Marshall County to create what would become Decatur County; he named it for himself and Representative John Marshall of Virginia (the brother-in-law of James Kenedy). The growth of Decatur accelerated during the 1840s when slaveowners began buying up large tracts of land throughout Holmes County west of Mobile Bayou for their own use or development into cotton plantations. This opening up of resources led to increased production at local farms which aided in building support networks that helped promote education and commerce within these fledgling townships throughout southcentral Alabama – something which still thrives today as businesses such as Walmart operate within easy reach across downtown’s shopping district! What followed were years filled with boomtown planning characterized by grandiose architecture featuring high cost materials like imported marble blocks used to build many courthouse seats (pictured below), civic organizations including a library that opened in 1851 (!), fancy hotels catering to wealthy visitors seeking culture while living amidst moderate poverty (<1/3er family median income) – all while people continued working long hours on low paying jobs essential for rural life! On October 17th, 1861 – just days shy of secession from Confederate States Of America – Unionists burned down several buildings belonging to Confederate sympathizers in downtownDecatur after demonstrations organized by white citizens against injustice experienced throughout southern states due toJim Crow Laws! Black Americans were then rounded up en masse without trial or legal process (known euphemistically as “enslavement”) transported back east where they perished miserably on trains headed all the way out through North Carolina! Bands playing music inside buildings were also targeted resulting in more than 15 injuries sustained before finally arriving at this isolated stretch near Birmingham!!! What we call today “Downtown DECATUR” actually existed prior to this event but suffered significant damage & loss during those fateful few moments! A federal court later foundOUS both parties involved (& awarded $10M+ compensatory damages) yet our current skyline view leaves much To be desired…
