In 1894, Enterprise was incorporated as a city under the state Constitution; it had been part of Barberton Township since 1868. In 1907, Jepson Electric Light Company opened its electric line through Enterprise from Mobile to Tuscaloosa; this made Enterprises first railroad town and made it an important center for commerce in central Alabama during this period. In 1916, First National Bank moved into new buildings at Fourth Street and Seminary Avenue in downtown (now known as "Hansen Place"); this was followed by Second National Bank in 1928 which became known as The PeoplesBank Tower; First Huntsville National Corporation opened its plant adjacent to PeoplesBank Plaza in 1949; then Coca-Cola Bottlers Inc., PepsiCo USA Inc., Microsoft Corp., Merrill Lynch & Co., SEIUSA Inc., ExxonMobil Corporation all established headquarters within five years of each other on Seminary Avenue across from Hansen Place (now known as "Pete Marovich Square"). These organizations formed what would become known as The Corporate Triangle which dominated local business for more than three decades until DuPont Company took over Coca-Cola Bottlers Incorporated in 1997 and later merged with PepsiCo USA Incorporated creating PepsiCoDuPont plc.; today’s incarnation of Coca-Cola Bottlers remains headquartered on Seminary Avenue across from Pete Marovich Square where it operates under the name Coke Enterprises LLC

In 1865, following Reconstruction measures enacted by President Abraham Lincoln that aimed to improve white Southerners' representation in Congress (a process known as Reconstruction), Enterprise became an important center for black cotton merchants and sharecroppers who began moving into local homes after being denied access to traditional white businesses and services. As black residents interacted with white businessmen and society at large they soon found themselves discriminated against by many establishments including schools and Churches which refused them admission based upon their race. In 1935 Enterprise ceased being a county seat when it was annexed by Montgomery County; however, it remains an important part of its history because it played a significant role in developing that county's infrastructure such as education and transportation systems.
