The Jasper Rifle Company was formed in 1892 by C.F. Briggs and W.H. Kanter as a rifle company for the militia of Jasper County, Alabama. The original rifles were made from English stocks and used in the Mexican-American War. In 1903, the company was reorganized as the Jasper Rifle Regiment and moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas where it served until World War I when it returned to Jasper County and continued service until it was disbanded in 1920.

In 1836, a Russian rifle manufacturer named Nikon came up with the first true breech-loading rifle. The rifle was a success and quickly became popular in Europe. Jasper was founded in 1819 by John Stephenson and his family as a wagon stop on the Mobile River. The town name comes from Jameson's Purchase, which was made up of all of what is now Jasper County and parts of Baldwin County. The first post office was established at Jasper in 1827. In 1839, Jasper became an incorporated town with a population of about 350 people. The timber industry played a large role in the development of Jasper and other nearby towns during the 19th century; it constituted about two-thirds of all local economic activity until well into the 20th century. By 1900, however, the lumber industry had completely disappeared and most residents were self-employed farmers or small businessmen. In 1939, when World War II began, many citizens volunteered to serve in the military; this led to some rapid growth within the community during that war years as people sought out opportunities to contribute their time and money to national defense efforts. After hostilities ended in 1945, businesses resumed but growth slowed down again during the early 1960s as many young people left for better-paid jobs elsewhere after watching prices for goods increase rapidly during wartime production shortages caused by America's Cold War policies. However, growth resumed around 1970 when more than 1,000 new homes were built along Interstate 65 east of town – bringing much needed economic life back to Jaspertown Today there are over 1,500 citizens living in Jaspertown who enjoy its mix of traditional arts (theatre productions), nightlife (bars and nightclubs), shopping malls/stores nearby (including Sears & Roebuck), golf courses nearby (including two championship courses) as well as advances technology including satellite TV service and internet access at almost every business or home..
