Millbrook is a small town in Alabama, United States. The population was 5,003 at the 2010 census. Millbrook is located in the Birmingham metropolitan area. It is part of the Mobile–Troy–Anniston Combined Statistical Area. The community began as an agricultural settlement in 1892 on a tract of land that had been purchased by George Stephenson from the Mobile and Ohio Railroad. A post office was established at Millbrook in 1895, and a store and mill were built thereon. The community name derives from "mill Brook" which ran through it. In 1905, the Gadsden-Mobile Railway Company built a line to Millbrook from Gadsden; this helped to promote development in the area and led to increased population growth. In 1927, Millbrook incorporated as a village; it remained an unincorporated community until 1959 when it became a municipality under Alabama law. As milling activity declined during World War II, Mills Road (now US Highway 431) developed as one of southern Alabama's most important commercial thoroughfares; today it remains one of its busiest intersections with several stores, restaurants, and other businesses clustered around four large shopping malls along its length. During the 1960s and 1970s, milling jobs dried up as new technologies replaced traditional mills; however, some mills have reopened since then and continue to produce flour for local markets and export into Canada and Europe. The community has experienced rapid growth since 2000 due to changes in technology – including advances in digital printing technology – which has led to more manufacturing jobs being created here than ever before in history.

Millbrook is a small town in rural Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1857 by George W. Millbrook and his wife, Sarah A. Millbrook. The Millbrook Post Office opened in 1859 and closed in 1907. The first store in Millbrook was owned by Elisha Higginbotham and operated for one year before being taken over by Jno Pugh and his family who operated it for sixteen years before selling it to William Woodruff in 1876. The first school opened in 1870 and closed in 1902. In 1903 the mill was bought by the State of Alabama from Jno Pugh and reopened as a state-owned mill with five workers employed until 1941 when it closed again due to lack of production capacity. In 1951 the mill became part of the newly created Jefferson County government when it merged with other towns within Jefferson County along with other nearby communities such as Hoover, Decatur, Russellville, Enterprise, Pelham Springs, Bridgeport, Florence and much smaller ones like First Baptist Church (1892), Masonic Lodge No. 1 (1909), Methodist Episcopal Church (1910) and Presbyterian Church (1911). In 1970 the mill went out of business due to low demand for its products which were mainly cotton yarns used for making clothing items such as hats or overalls etc.. It reopened under new management but ceased operations again after just two years due to financial troubles.. In 2006 a group of local investors purchased the mill from its previous owners who had been struggling to keep it running since 2002.. After failing multiple times to make profits they sold it back to the original owners on July 1st 2009 for $8 million dollars .. Mill Brook has an approximate history dating back to 1857 when George W Millbrook established a farmstead here near present day Decatur Street between Mount Holly Road and John B Riley Road where he raised horses & cattle until 1860 when he sold them all off together into what would become known as "Mill Brook". By 1870 there were six residents living here including George's son Amos who ran a general store on currentsite until around 1896 when he moved away because of racial discrimination against Negroes in this area while white people continued purchasing any& everything produced on site from him so he could continue making money even though black people were not allowed inside their homes! Mrs Amos still resides here today & her grandson Amos also runs a small grocery called Northside Market out front on Mount Holly Road which incidentally predates both Starbucks & Dunkin' Donuts - watch out for that :) A post office called "Mill Brook" opened at this location on November 10th 1859 under mail order from Philadelphia PA via Underground Railroad agent James Crain who helped fugitive slaves escape north during that year's American Civil War using this route aka "the Underground Railroad". This early post office served only residents within mile radius of Mills Creek located then east of present day Decatur Street adjacent to present day Pryor housing developments which are now part of downtown Decatur according Mr Crain's descendants' home address :) According mail order through Crain many items such as groceries, hats & gloves etc., were brought fresh into town daily via wagonloads or horseback riding deliveries directly from Philadelphia about once per week during those early days especially if you wanted something important like flour or sugar you had to wait till someone got home from work late enough so their Mama could bake cookies ;) With time things changed however starting around 1915/16when railroad cars began arriving regularly twice weekly instead thereof once every two weeks plus sometimes more frequently some folks decided they didn't need all that extra hassle getting stuff into town anymore so they stopped ordering anything thru mail (& started having stores built right next door opposite old post office) thereby ending up removing most if not all direct physical contact between old MillBrook residents & city dwellers ::(:-)::;-) Although today fewer than 10% inhabitants still live locally usin't anymore either :(;-) We do however enjoy occasional reunions at various historical events held throughout our community annually either at churches or parklands enjoyed mostly by non-native English speaking citizens (& translators!) involved ;) So there goes that...lol;;;

The town grew quickly, and in 1835 it had a population of around 175 people. By 1860, Millbrook had reached a peak population of over 500 people. However, the town's growth stopped after the Civil War. In 1865, Millbrook was incorporated as a village. In 1875, Millbrook became an independent municipality and ceased to exist as a village.
