In 1845, James Witherspoon erected a frame house on what became known as Witherspoon Hill which served as the home of both Mr. Witherspoon (the owner) and Mrs. Witherspoon until their death in 1888; it remained standing until 1922 when it was destroyed by fire In 1848, Nathan Smith moved from New Orleans to Montgomery and established himself as a flour miller near present day Bryant Lake Inn & Spa Bluff where he operated for many years before his death in 1932 Thereafter responsibilities for running the mill passed through various hands until it was purchased by Hemanus Perkins in 1951 after his retirement from business ownership In 1952, Mrs. Perkins donated her estate to Butler University which then used it as the campus center for many years before moving into its current location adjacent to PRESD Stadium in 2001 Additionally, Millsaps Hall (now the administration building)was constructed on part of Mrs. Perkins' estate during this time period . One side effect of Mrs."Perkins'" donation was that much land south of US Highway 31A was donated to local schools making Millbrook one of only two communities within Butler County that received this type exemption ; however , since 2002 all public school buildings have been built within one mile radius regardless of foundation size or acreage . With these expansions comes increased capacity for both education and economic development because now more people are able to access quality education close by without leaving their homes Additionally new businesses have opened up due to easier access to transportation within minutes or hours away while still being close enough so that they can be visited directly One such example is Revolution Cycle & Fitness which relocated from nearby Phenix City just outside town limits last year givingmill Brook's first bike shop addition since Before Christ days
