Mountain Brook is a small town in Alabama, United States. The population was 1,884 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Huntsville–Decatur micropolitan area. Mountain Brook began as a small log cabin on the now known as Mountain Brook Road in 1881 by two farmers, George Witherspoon and Johnnie Davenport. A post office was established there in 1883, and the name was changed to Mountain Brook in 1907. The first store opened in 1912, and the first school opened that year also. In 1916, MountainBrook saw its first tornado when a tree collapsed near the community square injuring four people. The center of town began to grow after World War II when many companies relocated their operations there because of low-cost labor availability elsewhere in Alabama or Georgia during that time period. By 1970, mountainbrook had more than 2,000 residents and 100 businesses employing over 200 people with an annual payroll of $15 million+. Many new homes were built following the war years; however some older structures still standing today are evidence of this growth including: The Brockman Library which was built in 1941 and has remained operational unchanged for over 60 years; The Masonic Lodge which served as a meeting place for local farmers from 1906 until it closed down in 1977; And The Baptist Church which replaced an old log church that had been burned down by Confederate forces during Reconstruction days (the building still stands today). In 2006, MountainBrook welcomed its newest resident; Walt Disney Imagineering’s Stitch attraction opened at nearby Magic Kingdom Park followed by another ride – Little Mermaid – just one year later. That same year saw construction begin on what will become future shopping centers including: One Stop Shopping Center which anchors Main Street south of Interstate 495; Northwoods Shopping Center which anchored north side of US 412 between I-565 & I-465; and finally Southwoods Shopping Center located east off US 412 between I-565 & I-465 bringing total number of commercial developments within minutes’ walk or less from downtown MountainBrook! In 2013/2014 Council approved plans to build 3 schools - one elementary (Kindergarten through 6th grade) on West Main Street across from Walmart , one middle school (7th through 12th grades) on East Main Street across from Sears , and one high school (13th through 16th grades) along corridor connecting these 3 schools - making it possible for MountainBrook to celebrateover 50 years since its incorporation into our municipality!

Mountain Brook is a town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 5,878 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jefferson County. MountainBrook is located on U.S. Route 431 east of Birmingham and south of Mobile. The first settler in Mountain Brook was James Aiken who arrived in 1814 from Georgia with his family and built a cabin near present-day Springdale Road. Aiken's son John married Sarah Capps in 1827 and they started to raise corn and beans on their farm until 1830 when they moved to a new home on property that now includes Main Street and School Avenue. They had six children: James (1828-1872), John (1829-1901), Sarah (baptized Apr 17th 1830; died young), Anna Mears (1832-1905), Pleasant Sorenson (1835-1910) and Infant George Washington Hargrave born Feb 26th 1840 when James left for Kentucky to enlist in the war against slavery . From 1834 until 1836, Mountain Brook was part of Montgomery County which was then divided between Alabama and Tennessee due to the Seminole Wars. In 1836, after Tennessee became an independent state, Mountain Brook joinedJefferson County as it formed from parts of both states. Mountain Brook is a stream in Alabama. It was named for the brook that flows through it. The area where Mountain Brook flows was first settled by Native American people. The Creek people used the stream as a source of water to irrigate their crops. In 1819, the U.S. government acquired land in what is now Mountain Brook from the Creek people. The government built a post office there and opened up the area to settlement. The first white person to live in Mountain Brook was John Pemberton, who arrived in 1827.
