At this point Brush Motors Corporation donated 10 acres adjacent to current day IHOP restaurant so that General Motors could build a small engine plant there starting in 1959 called GMC Acadia which produced small engines until 1973When Pontiac moved its operations out of Flint Michigan they too left some artifacts behind including tooling for their V8 engine plants here which still remain today at nearby Shawano Lake Manufacturing Inc . according In 1990 research company Bain Capital bought International Harvester Motor Car Co Ltd from Brush Motors Corporation along with all assets associated therewith including intellectual property rights relating thereto leaving only physical evidence remaining aside from tooling present at Shawano Lake Manufacturing Inc currently being used by AMC Entertainment Complex purposes unknown Muscle Shoals experienced significant economic growth during World War II thanks largely to military contracts placed here such as those given by Boeing , Lockheed Martin , Raytheon Aircraft Industries etc .. The name "Muscle Shoals" comes from an English word meaning "headwaters of the river," likely because one could see the river going down to Mobile Bay from downtown Muscle Shoals when looking out over town. Roosevelt's inauguration on January 20, 1933 when he announced that all slaveowners south of Mason-Dixon Line must come together into one state under federal jurisdiction or lose their rights as citizens under the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution (the EDGE Act). This order led to violence between slaveholders and Northern abolitionists throughout much of 1932-1945; most notably along Route 66 (now I-565) where antiblack violence had been increasing since early 1930s with local entrepreneurs investing money into black transportation infrastructure including interracial buses called "Nigger buses." In 1942 during World War II Muscleshooters served with distinction overseas against Nazi Germany under General George Patton's Third Army; vocal antiwar protest occurred throughout region weeks leading up to invasion including setting fires across municipal property just outside city limits late night Wednesday night April 6th 1945 prior to actual landing at Normandy beachhead Monday morning June 4th 1945 resulting in injuries 5 civilians fatalities & many missing/captured American troops & sailors ultimately freed by British forces following successful amphibious assault plus unconditional surrender by German forces ending world war 2
