In 1820, an American doctor named Dr. James Hill published an article in the Edinburgh Review of Medicine titled "The Use of bipeds as Medical Officers." Hill suggested that humans could use quadrupedalism as a way to administer medical care to patients. He was influenced by the work of French surgeon Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who argued that people should only use two legs when they could do so safely and effectively. The first bipedal humans in Alabama were likely settlers from Kentucky or Tennessee who arrived in the area c. 1765-1770. By 1800, human beings were living in Alabama for over 10 years and had developed some form of bipedalism. This shift probably happened due to physical challenges posed by the harsh environment and lack of resources available on these shores. The first evidence of bipedality is found at the site of Muscle Shoals which dates back to about 8000 BC. At this site, archaeologists have recovered tools used for hunting and fishing as well as bones from animals such as bear, deer, catfish, gazelle and warthog (a type of elephant). It is believed that early humans here began using their four limbs differently than today's human beings because it was easier to move around with little security against predators or obstacles.

Sylacauga is a census-designated place in Colbert County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sylacauga is located on US 68 south of Birmingham and east of Huntsville. The first settler in what became Sylacauga was John Wilkinson who arrived in 1819. He named his land "Wilkinson's Station." A post office called Wilkinson's Station was established in 1825, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1901. A community developed around Wilkinson's Station, and the name became Sylacauga for convenience. The community had two churches—the First Baptist Church (1827) and the Methodist Episcopal Church (1848). In 1852, a school was built to serve the townspeople and students from nearby cities including Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Decatur, Jasper and Mobile. By 1870 there were about 350 residents living in Sylacauga with a total of 10 businesses limited to farming or blacksmithing services. A hotel called Park Place been built near the center of town by 1875 which served as a social club for residents and functioned as a polling station during elections that year. By 1902 there were only five residents living within the limits of Sylacauga when it incorporated as an independent municipality under state law becoming one vote per capita with no representation on city councils or boards but did have its own fire brigade and police force The railroad reached Sylacuga by 1904 making it an important regional center for trade with surrounding counties In 1914 an electric power plant replaced traditional boilers used by farmers to produce heat for their homes heating up barns, gardens etc and also generated electricity for streetlights . Electric lights went into full production throughout most parts of Alabama by 1916

Sylacauga is a city in the southernmost corner of Alabama, and it is the seat of Marshall County. Situated on the Flint River, Sylacauga has been inhabited by humans since at least 7500 BC. The area that became Sylacauga was once part of the Creek Nation. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson captured what is now Sylacauga from the Creek Nation and incorporated it into Marshall County. After Jackson's death in 1845, Congress granted land to Marshall County on which to build a courthouse and jail. The first courthouse was built in 1851 and soon after, an industries park called Greenough Park began to be developed around the site of today's city hall. This boom era for Sylacauga ended in 1915 when World War I destroyed most of Iron Mountain iron ore production in southeastern Alabama. In 1927, Sylvania Shopping Center opened on Nolensville Road adjacent to present day City Hall; this was eventually replaced by nearby American Legion Post #2 as one of the largest shopping centers in central Alabama. Sylacauga experiences significant events each year including Homecoming week which celebrates community spirit,Festivals such as "The Arts Festival" which showcases local artisans and craftsmen from throughout Southeast Alabama during May & June, Independence Day/National Monument Day (July 4th), Confederate Cemetery Weekend (October 16-18), Christmas Eve/Christmas Day ( December 25th) and Thanksgiving( November 11th).
Sylacauga was founded in 1819 by John B. Sylacauga and James W. Hardin, two of the original settlers in Alabama. The town grew quickly because of its natural resources, including coal, iron ore, and lumber. In 1835, Sylacauga became a county seat and was named for General John B. Sylacauga, who had fought in the American Revolution and later served as a United States Senator from Alabama.
